Its a funny old world, two people on this photo and one looks like they are texting and the other looks like they are receiving a phone call.

I don't know what material has been used for the fountain but it looks like faded plastic to me. The Trevi Fountain it ain't . I couldn't imagine anybody jumping in with wild abandon. As in 'Dolce Vita'....( but that's the Mediterraneans after all)

Look forward to seeing the park in the Summer and hoping the cafe will be open. We are so lucky to have our park. whether we know it as Mesnes Park or Wigan Park.

Comment by: Arthur on 24th February 2021 at 09:58

What's wrong with that , Mick.

Comment by: Mick on 24th February 2021 at 12:06

Ill tell you whats wrong with that, while they are in their own little world busy doing nothing, the child is not being supervised.
It only takes a few seconds and that child can be in the freezing water.
Then it will be a 999 call and the police, fire brigade and ambulance will be sent, then it will be straight to A&E, jumping the queue as they go, and a full medical team will be put on full alert, and maybe even a helicopter ride to Alder Hey kids hospital or the one in Manchester.

Lovely photo David, lots of lovely memories in this park for me,thank you.

Comment by: Garry on 24th February 2021 at 14:44

Its pronounced as Mains Park and not Mesnes Park, although is spelled Mesnes. I've always known it as Wigan Park .
We say Ince Park, the real name is Walmsley Park.

Comment by: Liz on 24th February 2021 at 17:06

We lived very close so only called it “The Park” as there wasn’t another in walking distance

Comment by: Derek Platt on 24th February 2021 at 17:47

Well said Mick, I totally agree with you. What would parents do these days without their cell (smart) phones.

Comment by: David Owens on 24th February 2021 at 17:47

Mick, I'm glad you recognise you were wrong in your first comment when you said there are "two people on this photograph....." when there are in fact three people

Comment by: peebee on 24th February 2021 at 18:16

Actually there are seven people in shot.

Comment by: Arthur on 24th February 2021 at 19:11

Their are seven people and three dogs.

Comment by: Garry on 24th February 2021 at 19:19

Their are Eight people in this photo and three dogs, look carefully.

Comment by: . Ozy . on 24th February 2021 at 19:48

These two look a tad bit undernourished to me Mick, so they're probably on the blower to Just Eat for a couple of Bic Macs, with extra fries, a quadruple order of chicken Mc nuggets with extra fries and a couple of Mc flurries....Oh! and a diet Coke.

Comment by: DTease on 24th February 2021 at 20:31

Mick says there’s two
And then changes to three
David takes a look
And has to agree
Along comes Peebee
With his bid of seven
Then Garry steps in
With a bid of eleven
My head is spinning
And I’m struggling to think
Perhaps I’ll forget it
And go for a drink!

Comment by: Garry on 25th February 2021 at 00:28

The lady at the top right of the photo has a small dog wearing a red coat, a man with a dog in front of her and further up is another dog with it's owner. Two people on the steps near the cafe and next to the fountain is three people. ( Forget the birds.)
Just people and dogs.

Comment by: Veronica on 25th February 2021 at 10:53

Yes you're right Garry - my granddaughter has a cockerpoo called Mabel, (Mabs ) she has one of those jumpers in shocking pink! Personally I don't think they need to wear jumpers they are warm enough with their fur!

Comment by: Wiganer on 26th February 2021 at 08:12

Garry your eye sights brill, I must start drinking sherry.

Comment by: Methinks on 27th February 2021 at 00:23
