Photo-a-Day (Monday, 18th January, 2021)
Number One
I remember going on a boat from the pier when our Jamie and our Ashley were still at primary school. They are now 39 and 44! It was called "The Kittiwake". We also went along the canal on a boat from the pier when Peter's brother celebrated his 80th birthday. Only time I've been on a "Cruise" and it was down the Leeds-to-Liverpool! Talk about "There's no place like Home"! But it suits me....I have no sense of adventure whatsoever and am happiest at home, so Dennis's lovely photo of Wigan Pier is just up my street!
If I remember correctly the barges were called Emma and Netta.
Sad to say I recieved a message yesterday that one of the bargemen on Netta had passed away. Tommy Ledwith may he rest in peace.
Yes I remember Tom he was a neighbour of mine before I moved to this house. A lovely person. He and my husband went sea fishing along with other neighbours. It was only over the weekend I was looking at cine film of his son playing in the mud.
Did Tommy have long hair ?
I didn't know Tommy but sorry to hear this sad news. God Bless him and his family.
If I remember correctly wasn't those boats named after the wives of the Mayor and the council leader at the time.
Len Gibson should have been awarded an entrepreneur medal, as he bought run down buildings from the council for a song, which he refurbished and rented them back to the council at premium rents.
