The Archers
Photo: Dennis Seddon (Sony DSC-WX200)
What are they shooting at? there are no targets. I did competitive archery for years but only use a compound bow.
These guys look like they are using long bows, not as easy as it looks
Actually, they are The Bolton Longbow Archers, but based at Aspull Rugby Union Club.
So where are the targets, or is it anyone walking by at the time.
Dennis, what's the story ? That's a Yorkshire flag, unfinished business from the War of the Rose's . Like the photo it's different.
Where’s the target?
Are they shooting at the birds in the trees
Walt, the target is usually any wretched Yorkshire mon who’s strayed over the m62. They’re easily recognized in the local pubs because they never put their hond in their pocket and they keep droning on about Cricket.
It’s all fair and above board though ‘cos they give him twenty yards start before they open fire. It looks like this lucky beggar made it to the woods.
The arrow seen against the tree might also have been carrying a message?
Freddie I thought that, looks like in the air according to the middle chap.
The target must be birds.
This illusion is caused by x10 zoom. I was at the bottom of the Rugby Field and the Archers are at the top end. From where they are standing the ground slopes down to the trees which seem to be closer than they actually are because the zoom fore shortens the distance.
The target can't be seen because of the slope.
God help anybody walking behind the trees...
These lads must be from the Agincourt school . Aim high and woe betide anyone under the steel rain . Et deux doigts au toi , Monsieur .
Ey-up Dennis, steady on owd beigh, twenty yards start ! no wonder the're gettin uhway, Lancashire lads only geet 10 yds, by gum summit will av tuh bi done abieght that. I av tu bi careful yuh know, livin weer I do, as't avert keep yed deawn waint a !. tell thi what Marra, spell check on't machine as just thrown a wobbler.
There are some extra large hornets this year flying about .
I think yon Yorkshire mon bin supin ale.
You know Dennis it just goes to show how good Dave Oy is with his great photos, he make difficult shots easy.
I'll brain thee, young Dennis, calling it The Archers....I can't get "The Archers" theme-tune out of my head now!! It's driving me potty! xxxxx
They are shooting at the Sheriff of Nottingham
Born in Lancashire and living in Yorkshire Walt? tha's getten thi yed in o dog kennel theer owd lad! Tha's getten o Lanky finger waggin' in one earhole un a Yorkshire finger waggin' in t'other.

Dave Oy is a talented man indeed Wiganer. I have admired is photos on here for some years now.
Irene, tumpty, tumpty, tumpty tum... tumpty, ,tumpty,ta tum,...... tralalala .. or notes to that effect!
I used to be a big fan of Walter Gabriel Irene, remember him?
Maybe this photo is a before and after and you will see the targets tomorrow.
Dennis, Yorkies believe that one day a gang of lads walking on't Pennines came across a sign that said LANCASHIRE, those that could read turned back those that couldn't carried on and settled over there.
Irene and Veronica, it goes Tra lah lah lah lah lah laaaah - tral lah lal lah laaahhh lah, I've seen the Big Yin do it on TV.
To be honest, I've never really listened to The Archers, Dennis, although I love British traditions, but I know the theme tune and I HAVE heard of Walter Gabriel. Veronica, I'll name that tune in one!
