Photo-a-Day (Saturday, 25th July, 2020)
Photo: Dennis Seddon (Sony DSC-WX200)
Brilliant Dennis, great photo, an area I remember very well. As a young boy I delivered groceries for Billy Croston who had a small shop opposite the Moorgate Inn back in the1950s . All so different now as the insert shows.
Good one! I love before-and-after photos. Very interesting. xx
Brilliant idea these before and after photos. I hardly remember today's p a d
Was the Moorgate Inn originally a Tollgate
Just past the Moorgate, up the hill, on the left, Doris Eckersley's fish & chip shop.
Popular in the 60s - when fish and chips was an inexpensive meal.
Mick, I don’t think it was ever a toll gate. I think the word “gate” is used as it’s old meaning of “road”. “Moorgate” meaning “ The road across the moor”.
Gary, I was born next door to the chippie in 1947.
Spent many happy hours in here before going to The Pink Elephant
