View across Wigan from near the Wutchie
Photo: Dennis Seddon (Sony Cybershot)
A bit more to the right and you would be able to see our house
Great photo. I don't know the Wutchie? that white dot near the right side horozon must be Haigh Hall?
I know the wutchie and can see the parish church but am a bit lost otherwise! What are the tall buildings to the left, please?
I can see Saint Matthews church and what I think is the a571 winding its way to Highfield. If so, my house is in amongs the trees quite a way beyond the church. Irene the buildings are flats in Scholes.
Good interesting piccy Dennis.
Irene, I think the tall, brown block of flats is Boyswell House at the top of Greenough Street. The white flats to the right of that are at the bottom of Scholes, near the River Douglas.
Scholes Irene at the top of Greenough street, I think the tall flats are known as Derby house.
The red brick flats at the top of Greenough St are the nicer ones in my opinion. They were built in the late sixties, I remember passing them on he way to work. They blend in nicely with the landscape. They should have built the others to the same standard.
They are known as flat Irene, people live in them, to get up to the rooms they long staircases and some have lifts worked by electric.
Now and again some of the residents jump off the top when they are fed up
You can get a great view all round from top of Wutchie , I expect its a lot overgrown now, but great for the wildlife, good photo Dennis.
KATH, we're looking the wrong way for Haigh Hall, it's behind Dennis the photographer if i'm not mistaken.
MICK, we're not interested in where you live, under a stone probably. No need whatsoever for your answer to Irene's question.
Mick says "people live it flats"lol.
Arthur I was only answering Irenes question, when she asked this, What are the tall buildings to the left, please?
I dont suppose you know Arthur but Irene is still living her life like they did in the 1940s
Let's put Irene out of her misery - the brick block is Boyswell House, and the others are Scholes Village.
Mick your there again, Irene asked a perfectly legitimate question, you answered it as though she's a three year old. You also insult the residents who live in them.
It's all about you isn't it Mick.
I think Garry as already done that rev.
Nothing up with the 1940s, it's the dress sense that Irene loves.
Mick get a life...
and I'll get a sherry.
Mick, I love the 1940s....fashions, music, furnishings, and most of all the respect in those days for other people. But I don't live there. I was born in 1952 and I remember the flats in Scholes being built in the sixties when I was a young girl. I just couldn't get my bearings and asked a simple question. I DID think the white-coloured flats may be Scholes Village as I pass it regularly on the bus but I am not familiar with Boyswell House. Thankyou to everyone who kindly answered my question.
Pour me a double, Garry, please! xx
Illegitimi non carborundum, Irene.
I won't, Dennis!
Mick, In this week of mental health awareness, that was a very negative comment. You are out of order.
Are you saying E Mcthat theirs some of them who post on here are mentally ill
I am not saying that at all Mick. The point I was making was, don't make it a joke about people who have commited suicide.
I wasnt joking its just what happens these days
