I wonder if newt sightings are directly proportional to the number of times one messes about knee deep in farm ponds.

Poet, the sightings of newts is proportional to the partaking of alcoholic beverages by the general population. Hence the saying "As P----d as a newt"

We have had a pond in our garden for 30-years and never seen a newt - UNTIL TODAY !!!! My OH cleaned the old Belfast sink out last week that is at one end of the pond so it's now empty but this morning a little newt was in the bottom of the sink trying to clamber up the side which it couldn't so we helped it along with a fish net and now it is hopefully happy in the pond.
What a lovely find. Lovely photo David.
