Road Sweeper
Looks like it's a pavement (sidewalk) sweeper as well
That's a rare sight these days, I was once told that there is now only one motorised sweeper to cover the entire borough.
Cyril that's totall nonsense.
I have never ever seen one of those vehicles not where I live anyway, It even looks old fashioned - interesting!
Actually we do have steam road sweepers but a much smaller version than this one. And nowhere near as smart , in a yellowish colour.
I agree with Cyril, a rare sight indeed. Not seen one here for well over twelve months, last autumn in fact.
I think its bag is full with all that dust flying around
You all need to get out more, Wigan Council as very many road and path sweepers up and down our borough every day.
Try paying Council tax where you live, maybe then you'll see them.
But as Cyril says not that particular vehicle!!!
Where we live, we are quite lucky, the streets are cleaned quite regularly..
Alan, you'll believe anything in those council leaflets, are you also a member of The Flat Earth Society? I can't remember the last time I saw a council worker sweeping the pavements, though it must be about twenty years ago, and I haven't seen any of the motorised road sweepers for for well over two years now, even though the area I live has tree lined streets.
You'll find the pavement sweepers all over the borough mainly Sundays wigan or Leigh town centres. The high streets. I have seen the pavement yellow sweepers on my private housing estate. But the larger road sweepers at least once a month.
Was it intended to be quite an insulting remark from Alan regarding council tax. Does he believe I/we do not pay?
Wigan council have yellow Leyland Daf road sweeper trucks and the smaller walking path sweepers.
I haven't seen manual litter pickers for years.
They were made redundant. That's why you see litter flying about. The machines don't pick all the litter up either. I am always picking bottles and cans up. They seem to concentrate on the main streets where I live. I suppose it's the same everywhere.
You do see manual litter pickers from the council but only near main roads/shops etc.
Looks like the A5209, Almond Brook Rd
