Coppull Factory
Some lovely brickwork on Coppull mill, I used to have a storage unit in the mill and that rooftop structure on the left wasnt there then.
It's a crime to see so many of these buildings going to waste in the north. It looks quite modern, surely it could be put to some good use.
Just been looking at some photos of the mill i.e. Coppull Enterprise Centre on the their web, it looks very nice and clean with modernised offices and other areas along with fish in the mill pond. Quite a contrast to Pagefield mill in Wigan which has been allowed to decay and be vandalised, surprising what can be done.
Hi Cyril , talking of decay . Do you have a view about those Derelict web sites online ?
I hate any idea of vandalism , but I also find them haunting , intriguing if somewhat
macabre .
Unfortunately, when we in our society say don’t go , or do not , some always will . I am even asking myself why I find these sites fascinating . When you see people’s personal belonging in these places , it makes you wonder about them , who they where , what were their hopes and dreams where , but now invaded and put on a web site . But saying this , isn’t that what archeology is as we dig up the past?
For those on WW who are unaware of these web sites, and wonder like I did , proceed with caution. I ventured because I’m interested in history and human psychology .
Some places can be greatly upsetting , and disturbing , but , by looking at our history and these abandoned places , shows how much we as a society are failing .
These web sites show , abandoned farms , schools , hospitals , churches , all kinds of places , and as Veronica rightly says , should be put to better use . But , saying this , I myself must be an internet vandal , for even looking at a place that was once , someone’s
personal space .
Thank you for posting Alan . Sorry for being a bit long winded
Hello XPat, I don't hold any particular views on the derelict websites, though I find it very sad that today's youth have to go into disused buildings just to vandalise them and spray paint their monikers and expletives on walls, I've only looked at the films made around Wigan's derelict sites i.e. Billinge Hospital, the old town hall and the air raid bunkers under Mesnes Park, both Billinge Hospital and the town hall had their spooky places even when they were operating, and I suppose those bunkers would have a suffocating atmosphere about them, especially the long narrow corridors and rooms dug deep under the park.
