Delph Tavern
Thank goodness you identified it as Tontine Mick. My uncle lived in Tontine and anyone who mistakenly refered to it as Upholland was given the rounds of the kitchen.
Several memmers of my family lived in Tontine and they always said it was Tontine, Up Holland; as it is indeed part of Up Holland and always has been despite the modern way of saying Tontine, Orrell.
You've certainly framed the Delph Tavern, Mick. I believe the pub had a good darts team back in the day, particularly good, as it had won the prestigious Burtonwood Rose Bowl on more than one occasion. The trees on the left are at the point at which we'd taken leave of our thumbed ride - Having hopped aboard at Bickerstaffe's Southport Road -, in 1967; We'd been to see The Small Faces, in action at the Floral Hall - It must have been four in the morning by the time I'd got home.
The boundary between Greater Manchester area and West Lancs area is the stream running under Sefton Road 50 yards behind the Delph.
Orrell is in Greater Manchester and UpHolland is in West Lancs.
Tontine is in UpHolland.
My old birth place, absolutly lovely memories of playing as a child around Tontine and the surrounding area. My grandma lived in the end house opposite the Delph and I still visit the Delph when I'm back upt North. I warched them build the motorway bridge as a child.
