New service platforms
Looks very posh
I like this Bill. A fairly ordinary scene made interesting by shape and colour. It reminds me of Piet Mondrian's abstract paintings.
Good to see in Wigan
Something a bit' Toy Land' about it at first glance.
A very good composition.
Good photo.
When I think of Springs Branch circa 1963 I think of coal dust, mud between the outside tracks and the beginnings of decay - even in the new shed. The pervading smell of oil, grease and expended steam - nothing like this today.
Someone described the depot for the Siemens units in Manchester as more like an operating theatre and as spotless.
Lovely photo and yes, very clean. But I loved Springs Branch in the late 1950s when I used to get lifted up onto the platform of the shunting engines and see the coal being shovelled into the firebox. Health and Safety would have a field-day today with the notion of a little girl experiencing that but I loved it and never came to any harm.
Irene,
You can always visit the East Lancs Railway in Bury. They might even let you shovel some coal if you ask nicely :-)
