Feeding time
Photo: Harry Cunliffe (Panasonic DMC-FZ38)
Smashing Photo Harry. Ah! mealy worms.
"Look here it's time you moved out - yer dad says he'll 'elp you t'find a nest - we'er too owd for this lark. Comin' in all hours - eating us out of house an'ome - it's not a hotel y'know!"
Lovely piccy. Do the parents always feed the chicks before themselves? Just wondering as I have pheasants come to be fed and the cock ALWAYS allows the hens to feed first.
On our patio, in the North East, we have this scene plus the Starlings. The Blackbirds are lovely and generally patient. The Starling chicks resemble teddy boys, demanding and screeching for food.
We feed them suet.
I was told to get ride of our 8 bird feeders by the missis 2 weeks ago.
I took them all the Birkace lodge and filled them all up with food and hung them in the trees
Veronica, you had me in stitches there! Made my day! Fantastic photo, too, Harry.xxxxx
Had a bird table on the decking but threw it away because we only got a pair of FAT pigeons feasting on it.Either that or the seed/mealy worms rotted or started sprouting.
I had a bird table and in winter it attracted many birds but also cats, mice and rats.Got rid of it.
Pw,we also had a bird feeding station, but one day I saw a rat scaling up it and then a couple more,so it had to go ..I wouldn't care but we love feeding the birds. Its a lovely shot Harry..thank you.
Couldn't resist Irene... It's the look on their faces. The chick looks like he's giving 'lip' as my Mam would say! Nowty teenagers!
We had the same thing with the pigeons just sitting there eating everything,
I remember watching a wild bird being fed a product made by PSluis, in the 1960s; A birdfood with a structure not too dissimilar to that of mince tart filling - moist and slightly heavy, if you like. I've a sneaky suspicion, though, that it had been produced for the likes of show-birds or racing-pigeons or maybe even sickly birds.
Whichever, this 'rum' mixture was obviously avian friendly.
Yaaa shud up and get outa my face.
