V.I.P is it ? I wouldn't be seen dead in that thing. What an hideous ugly vulgar and obscene monstrosity.

Comment by: Ivor on 6th April 2019 at 01:43

Looks like that shot was taken from a vehicle, hope you was not driving Micky boy. and it seems another dig at scholes yet again.

Comment by: Linma on 6th April 2019 at 07:33

Just after 10am yesterday there were 2 outside Weatherspoons in Chorley. A few outside drinking pints and the others inside having their breakfast. Stop off point on their way to Liverpool.

Agreed entirely, Poet. I have to turn away if we pass one on the road. They look American, (cheap, showy and tacky), and I would rather walk than ride in one. Horrible!

Comment by: Veronica on 6th April 2019 at 09:34

I can't imagine Prince Charles with his entourage in that posh 'single decker' Is this Birkett Bank heading to St Patrick's for a wedding perhaps,or leaving by Scholefield Lane? Again the trees are misleading me.

Comment by: Gary on 6th April 2019 at 09:48

Looks more like an extended mortuary van.

If Mick is having a 'dig' at Scholes ( of which I'm not certain) he obviously doesn't know the Scholes of old. It was a wonderful vibrant community with wonderful decent people - I am proud of my roots. Scholes is not just the main road, There's lots of lovely private and social housing. I have friends who live off the Platt Lane area in beautiful property. Some of the old housing is still in good condition. There's 'grot' spots everywhere these days, even in the so called up -market places. The red Accrington brick terraced housing in the photo was always sought after and better built than some modern property.

Top of Greenhough Street Veronica.

May well be ugly, but they do have an excellent purpose with transporting folks around if they want something better than a mini-bus.

Comment by: Rosie G on 6th April 2019 at 16:07

Agree abut them looking a bit tacky but they are as Cyril says, fit for purpose. As for America, America is not asking us to copy everything ! i have been several times to the US and always found the people lovely.

Comment by: Veronica on 6th April 2019 at 16:48

You are right Cyril - I had lost my bearings. I see the 'car' turning into Greenough St.
Thanks....its been a long,long time.

One sometimes wonders why some people always try to find fault with a photo, especially with ones I put on, that just happens to be snapped in Scholes or Ince
My dear old dad who was born in Hardybutts and went to St Pats will be turning in his grave if he knew what was going on in 2019
Ive just looked back at some old photos and theres a cracker by me on Saturday, 24th November, 2018)

Comment by: irene roberts on 6th April 2019 at 18:15

Give me the minibus any time!

Comment by: Julie on 6th April 2019 at 20:09

Of course it is Poet.!
Anything , that has the impertinence to invade Wigan’s past , should be immediately shunted to Hell. This fear of the modern world , and this nail clawing wish to remain in the past , only chokes the life force of Wigan to progress .

Comment by: DTease on 6th April 2019 at 20:34

You would never have got around the nooks and crannies of the old Scholes in a contraption like that. You would have to split it in the middle like one of Boris’s Bendy Buses.

Comment by: Ivor on 6th April 2019 at 21:05

Mick their is nobody WORSE than you for finding fault with anyones photos and your last sentence just about sums up yourself, me me me me me

Comment by: Poet on 6th April 2019 at 21:22

Hi Julie,
I hardly think a Stretch Limo or the worship of the combustion engine is the epitome of modernity. These things were ' naff' in the 7Os. Gas guzzling polluters like this are history. Modernity is the tram and the electric car.
My respects to you.

Can't beat a bit of Irish in the old blood cells
Mick. Nothing wrong with Scholes - not the Scholes I knew...

Comment by: Garry on 7th April 2019 at 04:09

Top of Greenhough Street where the traffic light are always on RED.
Veronica is right Scholes was a lovely place of old, I did a coal round there many years ago and the people were just great.

Comment by: Veronica on 7th April 2019 at 09:32

Can't believe I mistook top of Greenough St for Birkett Bank- the traffic lights was the clue! Must be getting old!

Comment by: Pw on 7th April 2019 at 13:05

I once went to a wedding reception with other guests and thought when it arrived it was OTT but we all had a good time both going and returning.Much better than a mini bus and we were not VIP's .I think there are some inverted snobs on here but everyone is entitled to their opinion

Comment by: Garry on 7th April 2019 at 14:53

Yip you're right Veronica an age thing. lol.

Comment by: Veronica on 7th April 2019 at 16:11

Don't rub it in Garry- I'm sick of walking upstairs and wondering what I've come up for!

Comment by: Garry on 7th April 2019 at 21:37

Me too Veronica, one day I couldn't
find me glasses anywhere I was all over the place until I looked through the mirror and their they were resting on my head...a right fool I am.

Comment by: Veronica on 7th April 2019 at 21:58

Hahahaha.... I'm the same with my mobile phone ....I have to wait till somebody rings me to find it.
