My first glance I thought this must be a caricature / cartoon. Even the shape of the duck looks out of sync - perhaps it's a case of preening it's feathers. Very unusual - to me anyway....

Very unusual! I too didn't think it seemed real as I have never seen one but Peter recognised it as a mandarin duck right away.

I was talking to old Bill Oddie and he said Wigan is so lucky to have a mandarin living locally, he went on saying how it was the nicest coloured bird in whole world.

Some also live on Worthington Lake.
The only duck which nests in a tree.

Orrell water park also have these lovely ducks occasionally,the last time one was with the mallards for a few weeks.
