Is that Scout Moor wind farm just to the left of St. Catherine's spire?

Yes it is Anne you can just about see the white wind turbines

My Mums family in Aspull were originally Scots so we always called it Ben Wuchy, although I don't think we ever wrote it down.

I was brought up in New Springs, then Aspull.
We always called it Wutchy Rook, then it was all shale, nothing green on it at all.

Kath. Your right. Nearly everyone in Aspull called it Wutchy Rook

The trees were planted by the Forestry Commission in 1964. Originally it was all fir, then others followed.
As Kath H says it is unrecognisable now and, frankly, far better. Beyond Wutchy, by Hall Lane, there were two other smaller heaps with brick shaft tops. One was Calais, the other California, both levelled in the mid 60s and on my last visit, the site was built on.
