Photo-a-Day (Tuesday, 15th January, 2019)
Grand Arcade
Welcome to the dark and dismal dungeon.
For me these Malls possess a tele-portal quality. So alike in appearance and atmosphere are they, that after scurrying around one for a few hours you are never quite sure, when you finally emerge into daylight, which town you you'll be in.
Or perhaps I'm unduly influenced by the appearance of the starship Enterprise which seems to have touched down. To bravely go.....
Large crowds were expected for shopping - as the shops start to close down it would make a lovely dance hall. 'Strictly' has made dancing very popular these days. I can see Tea Dances being held! Who knows another 'Emp' could be on the horizon.
I have to say the cleaners keep the Arcade spotless... And there is always a couple of blokes / bouncers keeping an eye on things!
There is no time stamp on this photo so maybe everyone is at work earning the money so that they can go shopping.
This and the other two photos by Jane reminded me of Spring 2005 - my elder son was on a job interview in Cheshire and I dropped him off and drove up to Wigan to buy a Wigan RLFC short for him. He's never lived in Lancs, never mind Wigan, but has been well trained.
I hadn't been in the town for many years and, frankly, wondered where I was!
Inside this mall, all I could think of was Station Road, the Ritz, buses and the Casino.
Eventually got my bearings - and the shirt.
Well I think it looks nice and bright very clean and spacious so there!
Good photo, I see that all seating has been remove'... Why. Poet, your Starship Enterprise could join forces with Dr. Who and Tardis, and then you would be screwed. LOL.
Too be honest I dread Marks and Debenhams closing down - I just want the stores to be left as they have always been.
Wigan will not be the same without them. I came to Wigan today and the clothes for sale in both stores got me really worried. It's as if they are getting rid of everything. When I asked an assistant in M&S was the store closing he just said they hadn't been told anything!

Thanks B - Now I know - very sad about it. I don't think I will be going down to Robin Park it will have to be Middlebrook at Horwich. Unbelievable!
I buy everything from Amazon UK. Mainly because most town centre stores simply don't stock the things I want to buy.
With respect Tracey that's why the stores have closed down in many towns. I feel sorry for the people who are out of work because of ordering on the Internet. You could see what was going to happen. I won't even use the self service in any store. I will queue before I would do that. Also I think there is nothing nicer than shopping inside a store especially for clothing. To touch and feel the quality and try on things to make sure they fit- you can't beat that! Sometimes things do look nicer on the Internet but when delivered they are nothing like you thought they would be. Well that's my view - but I just like shopping..
