Simon Weston CBE
Photo: Dave (Oy) (Nikon D850)
Great photo of an amazing man, thanks Dave, best wishes Simon.
I don't know this person but it is very obvious that he has suffered some severe injuries. He is to be commended for having had to suffer some obviously painful treatment, and we salute you.
Simon was lucky he survived a lot who went there didnt come back, including Wiganer Staff Sergeant Jim Prescott who died instantly when a 1,000lbs bomb went off on board HMS Antelope
A photograph of the frigate engulfed in an enormous fireball became one of the defining images of the 1982 conflict with Argentina.
A lovely photo of a brave man who has refused point blank to let his experiences and injuries ruin his life.
The idea of Wigan Borough having it's own armed forces is intriguing. I can see where the headquarters would be from the sign and the Navy , of course would be based at Wigan Pier. The Army could do their training around the Wutchy but where would we put the Air Force?
Seriously though. Simon Weston is a fine example to us all of what can be achieved by dogged determination.
A special man,an hero and a legend,to do what he has done after what he has gone through is amazing,a great photo.
A man who could have hidden away but helped himself by helping others. He has a lovely family and is now a doting grandfather.
Good luck to him!

Admiration and respect to this national hero. Far worthier of a knighthood than some present Incumbents.
He's a hell of a lad is that, someone where it is a true honour to have them visit and take an interest.
Mick, please do not overlook Stephen Heyes of Wigan (HMS Ardent) faithfully remembered by his lady, and what was his "Mam and Dad Nelson". Be reet.
POET, I couldn't agree more, British manhood at its VERY best. Lately because of the Brexit situation i've seen more 'Sirs' on television than I knew existed and I think, ''What on earth has he done to deserve a Knighthood''? Probably sat at a desk and pushed a pen, definitely not killed a dragon and DEFINATELY not gone through anything like Simon Weston has suffered. Well done Simon, we salute you.
He's just a real man.
