Butts Basin
If my names was Adolf Hitler I would have bomb these canals, because if there wasnt barges moving it would have crippled the country, and flooded a lot of factory's in places like Burnley where the canal is raised up above the town.
And they wouldnt have had as many guns pointing up like in the citys, they would have only been defended by a few old dads army soldiers
Well captured.
Butts Basin - A lovely name, and easy reminder of the havens enjoyed by the old sailing ships.
And perhaps Mick isn't aware that Pte. Frazer had hit five consecutive 'bulls' on his way to securing victory for the Walmington-on-Sea platoon in last Saturday's episode ('Shooting Pains') of Dad's Army.
Photo looks like it was taken from a speeding boat.
It is surprising Mick if Old Adolf didnt know about canals, he knew of rivers & everything else. Perhaps it wasnt quite known that canals were watery roads for goods to be moved about the country.
It should also be remembered that many women took over the work of narrow boats & barges as the men joined the army. I have a book right beside me now...Idle Women..by Susan Woolfit, who was one of women who worked on the canals in the 2nd WW.
Lively photo David !
Very artistic wave action, David. Very interesting photo. Like it..!!
Philip G, I saw Frazer hitting five bulls on Saturday night, but you have to remember this was only telly make believe unlike Wiganworld Photo a Day

Mick , sometimes you don't half talk a load of sh1tesometimes. You've been watching 'The Dambusters' film again haven't you?. ):
Mick.
I find your apparent grasp of the P-a-D canon to be a bit worrying. And how, perhaps, might you compliment/complement ('your choice') David's 'lovely' Photo - Bombs and controlled whimsey then disallowed.
Mortarmillbill - you're right, my boat was 'speeding' - travelling at the maximum speed for British canals - 4 mph. I think the Bridgewater is probably the only canal you can still travel at that speed - once I reached the Leeds and Liverpool I was producing broken wash at that speed, and had to slow down. The bottom is much closer to the top, thanks to the lack of dredging of the channels.
A bit of whimsey Philip would be Mick skimming along the top o't canal on his bike whistling the Dambuster's tune.....; ))
You're probably right Veronica. And Mick really does seem to be a bit of a character - I'd like to meet him sometime.
Oh, a bit of stuff heading your way - posted it 1st Class this morning.
Oooooh loverly- just in time for painting Christmas cards. Only done 2 as of now!
