Photo-a-Day (Wednesday, 7th November, 2018)
Worthington Reservoir
Out of your safety zone there Maurice, too far from home !!! Good pic, is this one of the 'few' you sent in ?
Far off on that distant bank the other day I saw a shoal of the most massive Barbel. There must have been 30 of them at least basking just beneath the surface ,each about a metre long.
I watched them for an hour or so ,though they barely moved but for a slight fanning of their pectoral fins .
The lads here seem absorbed in the same life affirming meditation .
Ahhhhh..............
That's the life.....
Good one, Maurice.
Well done Maurice it's a superb image, well done, and its a lot better than that load of rubbish that Mick posts.
Wigan is very blessed with all the lakes etc in the area & the canal system too. It all looks very peaceful. Nice photo.
I've seen them from above, as well, Poet - The joy of refraction. I also believe that the Common Barbel can reach 4' in length. And yes, Maurice shows a scene far removed from 'the noise of a pounding forge-hammer'.
Maurice. A smashing photo - perhaps a prize for Spot-the Float?
An idyllic picture- fishermen of England, enjoying a healthy pursuit in lovely, breezy conditions. What more could they ask for?
Poet, my hubby thought barbel were only in running water, not still water, but is happy to stand corrected.
Thanks everyone for the nice comments,we go there quite often Roy,we used to see Jimmy Morris the odd time,Irene,Barbel should only be in rivers, but quite a long while ago they were put into still waters, there used to be Sturgeon in the lake off Back Lane,I think it's called Beacon View fishery.
Jimmy Morris who had the weak bladder died a few back, I have walked around the lakes with him many a time.
I knew Jimmy had died Mick,it was very sudden though,we were talking to him a couple of weeks earlier.
Will the real Mick, please stand up..???
Still a great pic, Maurice...Let's have more, please...
