Sir Francis
Photo: David (Canon PowerShot SX240 HS)
In the 1950s, my Dad lifted me up to rub Sir Francis's shoe and make a wish. In the 1970s and 1980s, I lifted our Jamie and our Ashley up. In recent years, Jamie lifted our Edie and our Oliver up. And so it goes on for Wigan's little ones. I hope all their wishes come true.

I rub it on my own
He's been pondering a long, long time has Sir Francis. Long may he ponder about the ups and downs of life!
did you wish to civil Mick ?
Sometimes at night when no one is there
Francis Sharp Powell gets up from his chair
Down on the ground he commences to dance
Whirling and twirling as if in a trance
All night long by the light of the moon
He dances alone to a magical tune
And then with the dawn and with weary feet
He climbs back on his plinth and retakes his seat
Love that, DTease! When I was small and it was winter-time, and the curtains were closed in our little terraced house in Ince, I used to imagine Sir Francis sitting in the icy darkness, and I would shiver and edge closer to the fire.
All to the music of Al Johnson singing 'climb upon my knee Sonny Boy ...
It's nice to think old Francis gets up to stretch his legs in the early hours! ;0))
I like your verse DTease. It also reminds me of the 1963 version of Jason and the Argonauts in which Talos came alive - Spooky.
Jolson
Would he have voted for or against B***it???
