Are those the bargepoles the ladies keep saying they wouldn’t touch me with?
Probably the very ones DTease !
I have book called Idle Women...they were not idle at all, they kept the narrow boats & barges going while the men were away in the last war.
DTease, they're the ones, if they are 10 foot long
Not all the ladies agree Helen. One lady who shall be nameless because of her somewhat violent tendencies,says she would be more than happy to set about me with a ten foot barge pole.

Indeed TDease, one needs the love of at least one good woman who accepts the prod of a barge pole !
And 'the idle women' would certainly have known the ropes, as indeed the person whom secured this boat now does. The natural fibre rope, shown here, holds good much more than the 'quickie' type of knot - perhaps it's a Rolling Hitch?
