What is WHAMM referred to in yesterdays photo please? In Aussie, feeling cold looking at this, but makes me remember, fondly

Comment by: Syntacticmon on 15th March 2018 at 01:07

I'm as cow'd as a slor!

Comment by: Veronica on 15th March 2018 at 06:30

The Beast from the East has gone but the Pest from the West is due next! They paint a nice picture though.

LANCYLASS...WHAMM stands for Wigan Heritage And Mining Monument.
Very emotive photo Ron.

Beast from the East is coming back, take care.

Comment by: Garry on 15th March 2018 at 08:17

It's true, we are having warmer Winters and colder Springs.
I've ordered more coal and sherry, the beast from the east is on it's way back, Brrr.

Comment by: Howard P on 15th March 2018 at 08:20

I suspect that is the Finger Post, or it was before the new road layout and roundabouts.

I haven't heard "cowder than a slorr" for years, Syntactimon! My Dad always said it. It certainly fits that photo!

The path across the moor was called the bobby's walk.Put there when the police station was on the site where my house is.it was made to keep the bobby'feet dry when going to the finger post on traffic duty, the round about stopped that.

Garry do you help the coal man to tip the bags in the 'coal hole'? Just wondering - I bet you can show him a thing or two handling bags o'coal! Make sure you count them bags!

Comment by: Mick on 15th March 2018 at 13:28

Interesting to know about bobby's walk.

Comment by: DTease on 15th March 2018 at 15:44

Garry, i'm not sure about the coal bags but if you need any help with the Sherry???

Comment by: Garry on 15th March 2018 at 16:35

HA HA, Yes I could swing those coal bags around on to my back years ago on my rounds, I'm a little too old nowdays, Veronica.
Thanks DTease, but I've no problem handling the sherry.
Keep warm.

DTease, Veronica and I were before you for a glass of Garry's sherry....don't push in, Lad! xx

Comment by: DTease on 15th March 2018 at 21:01

Irene, Garry has just put a new order in so there should be enough to go round. I'll even bring my own pint pot to save him washing up.

Comment by: Garry on 15th March 2018 at 21:28

Drinks all round then Irene, cheers.

Comment by: Veronica on 15th March 2018 at 21:31

We might let him fetch t'coal in Irene whilst we sit near fire with Garry and all our glasses on't cornish toasting our toes. That's if Garry has a coal bucket! Ok Dtease!

Comment by: DTease on 15th March 2018 at 23:48

Sounds like a plan to me Veronlca.

Comment by: Alan on 16th March 2018 at 08:29
