Too late, Helen - that horse has bolted. The Faux-Art-Nouveau canopy and sign are not original. It had a much more prosaic sign on the Standishgate frontage - I'm surmising it was tarted up along with the interior during the Galleries redevelopment.
I don't remember seeing anything to show that Art Nouveau ever reached Wigan.... ;-))

I agree with Helen,..the Art Nouveau style canopy, though 'fake' seems to me to be more in keeping with the feel I have about the Arcade...The bow is tasteful and not over the top!

Now, you have really depressed me Rev
Long !! I knew that arcade way back, when the tea & coffee importers was situated at the market hall end. As a small child I used to go there with my Grandfather, it was fascinating.

As Ellen says the entrance it seems in keeping with an arcade, so maybe a slightly lesser evil, could be alot worse !
