I like this very much !. A tree that perhaps people walk past every day and don't give a second glance and yet, this photo shows off its lovely winter beauty. "Well Done" Maurice.

Such delicate tracery of the bare branches against the sky - heralds Winter's approach!
Monochrome offsets the bleakness.

Very good picture.

whereabouts in Aspull please.

Comment by: Helen of Troy on 4th December 2017 at 08:01

A stark reminder that winter is here.

Monochrome always adds something to an image.

Thanks Maurice

This is a fantastic study of a tree Maurice, captures the wintry feel very nicely.

Robes shedded!
The tree stands naked and empty
In winter's commonwealth.
For who can tell oak from elm
When autumn's heraldry has lost its realm?
Yet the forest nobles are uncompromising,
And wait and plot the spring uprising.

Very striking portrait of a winter tree.
Good one.

Maurice,do you originate from Beech Hill.

Comment by: Maurice on 4th December 2017 at 15:01

Thanks for the comments,I trust you are keeping well Roy,Julie,it's very close to Borsdane wood, there is a path from the end of Pennington Green Lane that goes to the wood, the tree is close to the entry gate,Maureen,I am from Hindley, but years ago I sold some tools to a young lad from Beech Hill who was a Tyrer, and his first name started with M,strange init.

Comment by: Maureen on 4th December 2017 at 15:20

Thank you Maurice I think his name was Maurice as well.

To those that stand before me,
I ask what do you see..
Do you see my beauty or God who gave to me..
When howling winds blow through me,
to cut away my gown,
sprinkled now before me, golden , red and brown,
I shall not ask for merit for showing you my
face , this was handed to me by one who gave me grace..

I knew a Maurice Tyrer many many years ago in the 50's who had a sister Monica.Would that be the same person that took the "Aspull tree"? Curious

Comment by: Ellen on 4th December 2017 at 23:38

Great picture! I've always thought that trees in winter are more beautiful than at any other time.
..seeing it in silhouette and monochrome only adds to the effect.
Thank you Maurice.

Dave, the Maurice you knew wasn't me,but there is another Maurice Tyrer who lives in Leigh, and he was born in the same year as me 1939,it may be him,the reason I know is because I have been mixed up with him a couple of times at the infirmary,we were born just 2 months apart.

I will hazard a guess that this tree is close to Dukes Row on Wigan Road. It looked like this when I was a kid 75 yrs ago. And long may it reign.
