Former Isolation Hospital

Former Isolation Hospital
Bowling Green Farm and barn, off Arbour Lane, Standish. In February 2012 Ron Hunt posted a pic of Elizabeth Peer’s farm, Standish. In his caption he said it had been an isolation hospital in the early 20th century - and asked where it was. TC Porteus (History of Standish, 1927) states that Bowling Green farm was ‘now the Isolation Hospital’. My view is from the opposite direction, and the farmhouse has been extended twice since his pic, but I think his question is answered.

There was a bowling green in the field to the east of the farm.

You wouldnt think that there was enough people living around there to have a bowling green, but I suppose there must have been more people in days gone by and there would have been a few people who worked at Standish Hall

An interesting picture and story. I wonder what the isolation was for,-maybe Tuberculosis?
As a nurse working in the 60's to early 80's, I shudder to think of working in these conditions! Nurses in those days must have been made of stronger stuff!
