Gongoozler
Looks like shes bent the arm on the lock gate
Nice photo Ron, but you got me beat with "Gongoozler"
Not a gongoozler - I can see a windlass in his right hand... so he's crew from a boat, operating the lock.
I took a pic from the opposite direction - of that section of the flight from St Catherine's spire. I'll put it in the album - since it's now an historic pic....
I’ve been searching P-A-D for a good pic of gongoozlers, I’m sure there was a crowd of them somewhere on the Wigan flight... anyone point me in the right direction?
A nice panoramic view, but could some-one enlighten me about what a gongoozler is?
The English Oxford Dictionary defines gongoozler as an idle spectator.
Wikipedia's definition is more apt: A gongoozler is a person who enjoys watching activity on the canals of the United Kingdom.
Gongoozler: 'A person who enjoys watching activities on the canal, particularly at locks.'

A great photo of one of my favourite places, thanks Ron. Thanks also for the photo from St Catharine's spire, Rev David.
Lock No. 71 (VII) is the one with a person on its left & a stray stone to its lower right:
