You were right, Oy! A very interesting pic! Good on him!

Comment by: Mick on 17th August 2017 at 07:34

Somebody commented yesterday that he had a lived in face, well todays photo looks like there been a few people who have lived in that suit hes wearing

Ive seen better dressed men working on there allotments in New Springs

Comment by: Veronica on 17th August 2017 at 08:57

I don't think Sir Ian would get on the Best Dressed list -but he's certainly at the top of the list for Best Actor.

Comment by: David Fairclough on 17th August 2017 at 09:41

One of England's best if not the best actor. Born in Bolton but called Wigan home

Comment by: irene roberts on 17th August 2017 at 10:11

He shows a very human side as opposed to many people of his fame, and I say good for you, Sir Ian, for coming home to support your fellow Wiganers. I can think of a lot of actors less famous who would have made an excuse not to attend. And as for his attire.....it was a Gay Pride March, not an appointment at Buckingham Palace.

Comment by: Jonno on 17th August 2017 at 10:50

What is the world coming to ?? London Underground announcers are not allowed to say Ladies and Gentlemen anymore as the city takes steps to be more 'gender neutral' they now say, good morning / afternoon everyone or hello everyone. We are pandering to the definate minority once again. Sorry if some of you dont agree but that's my view.

Comment by: Mick on 17th August 2017 at 10:57

Irene it shouldnt make a difference Buckingham Palace or Wigan, he should still dress a bit more smartly that that.
Jimmy Oneil makes some very good points about this gay pride event on his YouTube channel https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bUJXOAzokDI&t=188s

Comment by: Mary on 17th August 2017 at 11:13

I am surprised how toned down, dress wise, the marchers are, nothing like in London.

Comment by: John D on 17th August 2017 at 12:00

Sir Ian wasn't born in Bolton. He was born in Burnley and moved to Wigan in 1939. Twelve years later he moved to Bolton.

Comment by: Cyril on 17th August 2017 at 12:24

Moaning Mickey, like you and each and everyone Sir Ian McKellen is entitled to dress as he pleases when there is no dress code.

Comment by: irene roberts on 17th August 2017 at 13:15

I do agree with Jonno about "Ladies and Gentlemen".....I think he's spot on with what he says, Ladies and Gentlemen of Wigan World.

Comment by: Veronica on 17th August 2017 at 13:31

I agree about 'Ladies and Gentlemen' why should we be sidelined.by pandering to a minority..I blame the powers that be for it. It's not just in that area though is it. ,! Always having to be on your guard in case of offence.

Comment by: Maureen on 17th August 2017 at 13:35

I'm afraid no one would stop me saying Ladies and Gentlemen if it applied, surely nobody could lose their job if they refused...they could always refer back to the often stated quote 'Human Rights'.what ever happened to freedom of speech..

Comment by: Veronica on 17th August 2017 at 14:06

In the latter days of my working life in the Hospital I was told to remove a
religious medal on a chain around my neck...! Needless to say I didn't. I was working beyond retirement age anyway -if they had sacked me I wouldn't have bothered.

Comment by: Maureen on 17th August 2017 at 14:20

Good for you Veronica..how dare people tell you how to live your life..I hate folk dictating to people who live ordinary normal lives.

Comment by: Mick on 17th August 2017 at 16:05

And what about you our Maureen, trying to get a gang up on me because my comments on PAD wasnt to your liking

Comment by: Derek Platt on 17th August 2017 at 16:14

Comment by: Elizabeth on 17th August 2017 at 16:46

Anyone who knows Maureen knows she is an extremely kind and generous lady. She certainly wouldn't 'gang up'on anyone, she is quite able to stand up for herself, but ina totally inoffensive way.

Comment by: Maureen on 17th August 2017 at 16:54

Mick, methinks you must have an inferior complex..I have no idea of which comment that you mean..nor which PAD ..can you please explain..and our Mick..I have never ganged up on anybody in my life and am not going to start now...I have too many principles.

Comment by: Julie on 17th August 2017 at 17:20

Jonno, as someone who lives in London this is last thing people on the Underground are concerned about. Most are foreign anyway.
Crammed in like sardines folk just want get to their destination as quickly as possible .
I salute your ability to even understand an announcer as most times it's garbled fuzz.
Most you will hear is don't block the doors or move further inside. Let passengers off first all goes over people's heads, so they are not going to bother . I will pay attention as this is news to me.

Comment by: irene roberts on 17th August 2017 at 17:56

Maureen is one of the nicest people on here and I agree totally with Elizabeth's comment.

Comment by: Maureen on 17th August 2017 at 18:18

Thank you Irene,I wouldn't care if I knew what he was on about..I'm baffled.

Comment by: Ab on 17th August 2017 at 19:17

Yes he's not even from Wigan or rather born here. He's just an actor. And what has Wigan got to do with being gay as if it's a Wigan thing?. People need to just get on with their lives regardless of their sexuality instead of this charade. I agree with johnno about the gender neutral thing, another brainwashing control mechanism by the control freaks who are pulling the strings. I believe there's an agenda behind all that and not for anyone's benefit either. Now they're even encouraging boys to wear shirts in schools. Look into the work of KGB defector Yuri Bevmenov. Lots of revealing things he talks about.

Comment by: Veronica on 17th August 2017 at 19:17

Mick acting the mick!!!

Comment by: Maureen on 17th August 2017 at 19:24

Elizabeth,my thank you to you hasn't come through..I'm sure I sent it about 5 o'clock..I'm very grateful.

Comment by: Kevin on 17th August 2017 at 19:30

Jonno, I'm wondering what your comment has to do with this photograph?

You say "pandering to the definate minority once again", I'm assuming you mean people who are gay and lesbian? Bearing in mind that the photograph is of a GAY PRIDE march.

Comment by: Sam h , on 17th August 2017 at 19:35

Who was it that once said ?.the cloths don't make the man.

Comment by: Dave (Oy) on 17th August 2017 at 20:08

Just like 18th August last year - this thread really highlight why we still need events like this. So much ignorance. So much misunderstanding. So much intolerance.

Comment by: Kevin on 17th August 2017 at 20:20

Pride (regardless of what city/town it is held in) is a celebration of people being proud of who they are.

Ab, unless you live under a stone there are people today who are being attacked and murdered for being gay and lesbian. But what the heck, as you say, let's let them "just get on with their lives" instead of showing support and solidarity in these "charades".

Events like this are needed.

Comment by: Veronica on 17th August 2017 at 20:22

I believe it's a proverb Sam. In other words do not judge by appearances.

Comment by: Kevin on 17th August 2017 at 20:38

Dave (Oy), couldn't agree more. Also, great photo!

Comment by: Elizabeth on 17th August 2017 at 21:11

Thank you Maureen,I don't know what he is on about either. That you are a principled, tolerant and considerate person is obvious by your comments. Also thanks to Irene for endorsing my reply.Good on Veronica too, for continuing to wear her religious medal.

Comment by: Mary on 17th August 2017 at 22:05

Mick, I always enjoy your vids on the forum section but not your last one.
Wigan and Wigganers should celebrate Gay Pride . Unfortunately intolerance is alive and well in Wigan . This is a wonderful forum , but every now and then, a picture is shown, to indicate a certain few have views similar to an iceberg . Why do some people feel so threatened by gay, lesbian or trans gender people?

Comment by: Maureen on 17th August 2017 at 22:33

Thank you very much Elizabeth,I wonder if Mick will explain his comments..I doubt it very much..he has always hit and run..it is his favourite trait , he's done it before..someone else said that he just loves the attention..I'm beginning to think they're not far wrong.

Comment by: Ellen on 18th August 2017 at 00:47

Dave (Oy), I agree totally with your last comment. When will people learn that we are none of us cast "from the same mold", and learn to accept everyone's differences? Then, maybe, this will be a more peaceful world!

Comment by: Veronica on 18th August 2017 at 08:40

People do accept that there are gays, lesbians and transgenders in our society also the different denominations in faith. What people find ridiculous is when our language is changed to suit them and petty rules regarding the wearing of religious symbols in public employment. I understand the challenges faced by some of them and sympathise with them -they should be left to lead their own lives in safety. No one wants to see a return to what Alan Turing endured in the 50's for example. I certainly don't feel 'threatened' by that group of people Mary. I have worked alongside people who were gay and found them very friendly and hard working.

Comment by: Jonno on 18th August 2017 at 09:16

Ellen, half of this lot ARE cast from the same mold as 'we' are, the majority of them have crawled out of the woodwork mainly because they aren't recognised as themselves, nowt special, not taken on etc, so they decide to act and talk differently so that they WILL be noticed.

Comment by: Mary on 18th August 2017 at 17:13

Maureen , I am also losing faith with Mick.
His hit and run mentality , where before I gave him the benefit of doubt, is now becoming obvious and calculated.

I am still trying to get to grips with how many homophobic people there seems to be in Wigan. I really thought things had moved on
This inability to accept others for who they are, and fester this inner core of resentment and disapproval , I find this so sad , especially in my fellow Wiganners . This is a wake up call for me personally and something I find deeply troubling . Having been born in Wigan I thought I knew it's values and its people. I now realise I don't..

Comment by: Jeff on 18th August 2017 at 17:33

Let us have a "Proud to be Hetro Parade!"

Comment by: Julie on 18th August 2017 at 18:47

Jonno, 'this lot!?' Crawled out of the woodwork? Even so I admire your honesty Jonno, which is often lacking on this forum. With issues like this, various people tend to disappear , who I tend to believe hold the same views as yourself . At least you express them . I profoundly disagree with you but explaining would take to long on this forum . I simply leave you with this, if you don't question who you are , or what is , or how anything came to be.. If you only follow one path , one idea, one ideal ? If you recognise only one path and only one same idea . Please then see if you are not dead.
Our human history , our entire existence is based on difference, whether Cosmology,
Biology, Scientology, OR , big brother. We are all on the same one ball flying through space . If a comet hits us , gay, lesbian , black , white , Muslim and sheep , will all die together, like it or not. Mine is small in space time . No folks , I'm not on drugs

Comment by: Steve on 18th August 2017 at 21:34

The term Fawd off a Flitten comes to mind.

Comment by: Jonno on 19th August 2017 at 00:50

Julie that explanation regarding 'this lot' came from my two 'male' next door neighbours in Spain, they are ten times more camp than Ian McKellan will EVER be, brilliant neighbours, brilliant company, but they dont like all 'this lot' climbing on the bandwaggon, pretending to be gay.

Comment by: Veronica on 19th August 2017 at 09:17

I bet it's a riot with 'them' next door! Same working with them Jonno. :0))

Comment by: Bod , on 19th August 2017 at 11:17

Julie ,have you been cracking a bottle of sherry with Garry,ha ha only joking probably well said .

Comment by: Jonno on 20th August 2017 at 10:17

Correct Veronica, i can't start to tell you about some of the things i've heard when they have had one over the eight, but as i said, brilliant company.

Comment by: Julie on 29th August 2017 at 17:25

Interesting Jonno. Bod, Garry has changed . Steve , Eh! Explain what you mean lad!
