I reckon if the landowner insists on sowing his oats on a public right of way, then he deserves to get them trampled on. Wouldn't you agree Mick ?

This photo is so typical of the Wigan countryside as I remember it, as a two year old walking with Grandad along footpaths out of Borsdane Wood toward Hall Lane, up Polly Shades Lump or alongside Dicconson Mill up to the Old Wash. The area shown here, for me, was a year or so later.
Invariably, on these daily walks, other old men would be met, nearly all ex miners, with their dogs.

Doesnt look like the path was sowed , no oats growing along it to be trampled. Much better that the farmer leaves the space empty.
That said, its a very good photo, unusual.

Nice photo, just over the hill the footpath goes close to Blackrod Cricket Club.
