Photo-a-Day (Sunday, 18th December, 2016)
Balcarres Arms
Great photo Mick, the pub looks great, would love to have a pint of Marston's bitter with my Sunday lunch.
Fine photo of bikes and bikers - and it's good to see a pub that's open. So many are now flats or mini markets.
The Balcarres is on an excellent corner site; last in there 2003. More regularly 1969-71.
So many pubs demolished too.
We had our wedding reception there in 1968,after getting married at St David's.
I blame the teetotallers for that, Garry.
Nice pic Mick, but no vintage bikes in that lot all modern, and at a guess that bike with the 'Battenburg' markings could be a 'Blood Bike' and some sort of club ride out. Maybe some one can enlighten us.
The 'Bloodbikers ' deliver much needed urgent blood to hospitals in all weathers and they are volunteers as well, well done lads!.
It still seems 'oldie worldy' along the bend of the road and the pub is as usual a lovely stone building.
How right you are Rev Long, and the price of a pint.
Rev David ,I've never smoked mysel but I strongly believe the smoking ban strongly added to the demise of the public houses,it's the same in souther n Ireland when I visit my sister, the same thing has happened there.
Yes Owdkewyed it was a blood delivery bike and the blood biker rider stopped the traffic down at the finger post roundabout so they all could stick together in one pack.
I was only only push bike so I couldnt keep up with them after that
The Blood Bikers deliver Blood, Baby Milk(from the milk banks) samples and medication required urgently. They are all volunteers and I am proud to have a son who is one.
