LMS Stanier Black 5 44871
Photo: Dave (Oy) (Nikon D800 with Nikon 85mm F1.8)
Whenever I see any of these locos there is only one word, "BEAUTIFUL"
Ahhhhhh, & can smell that distinct aroma from here !
Great pic.
Wonderful!
It was a clever bit of engineering to make the bridge under the railway line wider.
Did you know they were due Dave, or was it a case of striking lucky?
As soon as I saw this photo I knew it was a Dave(Oy) photo, fabulous shot and great for you to post it here for all of us to enjoy.
Neil - I knew they were coming. It'd take some doing to just happen across it - with a camera in hand - for a 2 second opportunity!
Lovely!
Ahhh...the Riley & Sons Black 5, a wonderful example of a Stanier workhorse.
Looks like it's stable companion is making up the double header.

Any of those two engines 8F at any time ?
They are on their way back now I guess. That's a 10 day trip maybe to the north pole. I wonder why at this time of year. By the way another great shot
noopa 1000, the 8F was developed from the successful Black 5 to haul heavy freight, resulting in a very similar look.
My favourite locos when I fired at the branch,
What was so clever about building a new bridge, Mic? Straightforward engineering...
sorry britboy ,, I meant 8f springs branch shed .
