I love this. Strangely, for a reason I can't explain even to myself, I feel as if I could walk down into the town in that photo and it would be as it was in the sixties, with all the shops and landmarks we knew still there. Maybe it's just the combination of fading light and shadows, (or maybe it's just ME that's odd!), but that's how it makes me feel. I love it.

I like the Belisha Beacon, If it was the one on the corner of Mesnes Street, it would be the very first Belisha Beacon to be used in the world.

The first Belisha Beacon was erected in Wigan on the corner of Mesnes Street, and became operational on 4 July 1935.
