Across the Douglas Valley

Across the Douglas Valley
As the crow flies, it’s ten miles from my house in Standish to Christ Church Aughton, which stands on the ridge south of Ormskirk. It’s between 11 and 12 miles by road.

The sky at night
What a lovely sight
Waiting still for the dawn light

Had I the Heavens'embroidered cloths,
Enwrought with golden and silver light,
The blue and the dim and the dark cloths
Of night and light and the half-light,I would spread the cloths under your feet;
But I being poor,have only my dreams;
I have spread my dreams under your feet;
Tread softly because you tread on my dreams.

Vb, I only know that poem from the tv series, "Sex, Chips and Rock'n'Roll", which sounds an unlikely source if ever there was one, but that is where I know it from, nevertheless, and I find it beautiful.

Thanks, Dave - but if I'd done that you wouldn't be able to see (dimly) the lamp posts on the M6 slip roads....;-)
