Wow. lovely pic.

Comment by: Mick on 7th January 2016 at 07:00

Whats spoiling this photo from being one of the photos that get picked for the BBC countryside calendar is the metal bracket

Comment by: Aubrey on 7th January 2016 at 07:38

It'll do for me Dave. Great shot.

Comment by: Ivor Biggun on 7th January 2016 at 07:53

Great shot, Mick please go away with your stupid gibberish

Comment by: Neil Cain on 7th January 2016 at 08:37

Beautiful little bird, great shot.

Comment by: Rachel on 7th January 2016 at 08:48

Love this photo! Amazing! Out of interest how can you tell its a female kingfisher?

Comment by: Anne on 7th January 2016 at 08:51

He keeps on and on turning them out.
What can one say.... excellent.

Comment by: Veronica on 7th January 2016 at 09:47

Lovely subject for a pastel painting! Vibrant!

Comment by: Linda on 7th January 2016 at 10:04

You can tell it's female as she wears 'lipstick' on her bottom beak! Males beaks are both the same.

Brilliant photo as usual Dave!

Comment by: Ozymandias. on 7th January 2016 at 10:08

It's got it's beak open Rachel.

Comment by: A.W. on 7th January 2016 at 10:12

Perfect.

Comment by: David Barker on 7th January 2016 at 11:18

Stunning photograph Dave,Rachel the male Kingfisher as a black tip on the bottom mandible of its beak, females are all orangey pink.

Comment by: david.b on 7th January 2016 at 11:19

Superb shot!

Comment by: Jathbee on 7th January 2016 at 12:47

That's an absolute cracking photo, beautiful.

Jealous are we Mick? Pathetic.

Comment by: Maureen on 7th January 2016 at 13:12

Dave,that's a lovely shot..it can't be bettered.

Comment by: Roy on 7th January 2016 at 13:31

Great photo Dave, has the background been removed, or is this as it was, the sky maybe ?

Comment by: Ste Wigan on 7th January 2016 at 13:34

Beltin!

Comment by: Kas on 7th January 2016 at 13:58

Belter once again Dave.

Comment by: Rachel on 7th January 2016 at 14:47

Roy I think its a very shallow depth of field. Because of this the background is out of focus allowing the subject to stand out.

Comment by: Peter on 7th January 2016 at 14:52

Notice that Mick never responds to any of the comments made against him..because he just enjoys the attention..he's obnoxious.

Comment by: Mac on 7th January 2016 at 18:04

Just absolutely fabulous.

Comment by: Dave (Oy) on 7th January 2016 at 19:21

Thanks for the kind words folks :)

Comment by: Roy on 7th January 2016 at 19:41

Thank you Rachel, i'm just a point and press 'photographer'.

Comment by: Dave (Oy) on 7th January 2016 at 22:12

Yes - Rachel has it right. The background is quite a way off and I shot this at 300mm and F/4.

Comment by: Broady on 8th January 2016 at 04:52

How do we know that is in Wigan?? I will post my photo's of bears and bald headed eagles and say I took them in Abram!!

Comment by: Johnny on 8th January 2016 at 12:03

Only last week I saw an anaconda meandering through Haigh Plantations!
Must be global warmin' :-)

Comment by: Jonno on 8th January 2016 at 16:12

Mick, will you for just once praise someones work, instead of spouting negative c--p.This is an excellent photo in anybodys book and you know it is. It looks a damn sight better than yesterdays wooden hut, even if they do sell fish and chips from it. Broady and Johnny, get real, if Dave says it's in Wigan, then it's in Wigan.

Comment by: Ron D on 8th January 2016 at 16:28

Good photography, May even be competitive .

Comment by: Mary, on 8th January 2016 at 17:24

A Dave Oy special, that's all I want to say, just lovely picture

Comment by: Garry on 9th January 2016 at 10:01

It's about time we had wildlife on instead of boring buildings.

Comment by: Johnny on 9th January 2016 at 11:02

Point taken Jonno....only jestin. An excellent pic and those colours...
Its great that such a diverse variety of wildlife can be seen around Wigan!
The downside is the lowlife in the town centre :-)

Comment by: Tracy on 13th January 2016 at 19:51
