The last time I saw Scholes it was all grey stone terraced houses. How times change !!

This is more like it a proper photo of Wigan.

I would hate to have to live in one of them maisonettes.

Dictionary says,,, a maisonette is a flat or apartment on two floors or stories, still would like to live in one

Great shot - few chimneys and no smoke; how times have changed - Sams Bar(Ball & Boot) behind the theatre and the 'Balc' kjust visible in the distance - and interesting to see town centre workers taking use of the car parking space where the old Limefield Flats once stood - 'Wutchie' in the background and they are not maisonetts Mick they are 'homes'

great photo Rachel!

and I forgot Mick the 'homes' in the photo to which you refer are not maisonettes - they are 'Dutch Houses' ...ask a local!
As kids a few of my friends lived in them...and I cant recollect any of them complaining! Happy Days!

Alan, two things that haven't changed since you last saw the place are, Wigan Little Theatre bottom left and, as Malc mentioned, Wutchie.

I would hate to live in a Dutch House

And anyone would hate to live next to you Mick

Mick lives less than a hundred yards from the noisy polluting M6

Thanks Jonno, you are right.

For those of us living elsewhere a photo such as this is a real and vivid reminder of Wigan. The ghost of Central Park will be hovering around somewhere!

Rachel - your photos are superb in every way. Thanks.

What's a Dutch House?

Comment by: Ernest Pyke on 13th November 2015 at 20:02

Kas; have you heard of a search engine, such as Google and find the answer yourself?
You are now out of Shevington, Rachel!

Comment by: Scholes Malc on 13th November 2015 at 20:26

two places of worship visible on there - one no longer, one still

Comment by: Kas on 13th November 2015 at 20:49

Thanks for your kind reply Ernest.

No maisonettes, just bungalows, houses and a block of flats.
