Is this Moorhen old enough to be drinking beer?

Moorhen Colin ? Are you sure it's not a Scarling. Good pic, well spotted.

Canals have always been dumping places, shame really. but they are much cleaner than ever before.

Mucky Wigan, the canal bank is full of litter from the top lock
New Springs right through to Martland Mill

I was talking to the man who lives in the canal side house in Ince, and I was telling him that a lot of the litter is down to the local fishermen who walk away from where they have been sat fishing ,leaving behind the empty cans.

But he blamed it on the Ince school kids who walk along the canal bank on the way home from school

After martland mill its litter free, in places like Crooke, Gathurst, Appley Bridge and Parbold

And surprisingly its usually clean around the flashes, Platt Bridge and Bamfurlong.

Beercan, isn't that on the menu in the west indies with eggs for breakfast.!

Mick you are a strange man, do only fishermen leave litter, not walkers, boaters, kids, or anyone else who happens to pass along the banks, please put your brain in gear before coming out with dribble

It is a shame that our wildlife has to put up with human litter.

I like it. Have you got the shot with the reflection of the moorhen?
That would be good with the carling cans removed.

Mick, I haven't made the comment at 09:23. Someone can't face-up by using their own name.

A typing error in my last comment, there is just 1 can.

Comment by: Ken R on 2nd November 2015 at 19:53

Aubrey, I would say that the removing of one can from this photo will automatically remove the other.

When I was a boy, we used to call these birds Woggies - though I've no idea why.

Yes. I was a lad living in Lostock Graham 60 odd years ago and we called them woggies. Great memories.
