Swap it
Built as Aspull Labour Club, my Dad played a large part of this Club, as treasurer. He would turn over in his grave if he could see this to-day. Thanks Ron, many memories.
Spar wont be happy
Another going to dust. Platt-bridge labour club has just been demolished. It's not only pubs that's going out of the trade.
Is Newsprings L/club still going?
Lower Ince's club has also just been demolished.
Where are the thousands of new members going to meet now?
It seems to be the type of club that's gone out of fashion, many labour, conservative, workingmen's and neighbourhood social clubs have gone over the last few years. Younger people seem to prefer night clubs and bars.
A.W. your wrong. All those clubs you have mentioned, didn't attract young people anyway.
Labour Club trips to Southport, for members' children, were great and very much looked forward to. Lunch at The Mayfair Hotel and 5 shillings spending money too. Sadly another treat from the past that will not be repeated.
Garry, you're wrong, it is true they had more older members but also a fair number of younger people used them and attended functions in them.
Aw, the clubs mentioned were for older members, no attraction for young people. I mean, you wouldn't get 18 year old males playing Bingo would you. Functions yes but not has members.
The social club near me used to have a weekly disco, it was always packed out and nobody much over 30.
Mostly Mature people, just a handful of younger folk.
