Nice photo David, had a few meals in there, a good selection of ales.

Comment by: Garry on 14th August 2015 at 07:25

Good shot David. Walking up or down there after a few pints could be laughable.

I once had my dinner cooked at the Crown by now a Michelin star chef Simon Rogan who at the time lived in Appley Bridge

This pub put on a superb carvery lunch and in March 1970 increased the price from 10/6 to 12/6 ! My last meal there :- Haddock, chips and mushy peas, apple pie and custard, on 13th March 2010, cost £14.45.
There`s a photo in New gallery, Pubs page 2 to compare with today`s P-a-D."
How time flies!

reminds me a little of the Black boy inn in Caernarfon

Who parked the red car?

Comment by: Garry on 14th August 2015 at 14:25

I park my car like that, it helps to stop ruff and banger cars or vans parking too close to me. A big bloke or woman tend to open their doors wide then dent and scratch body work on other folks vehicles. NO OFFENCE TO ANYONE, but that's why I do it. Supermarkets and the likes of B&Q are the worst places.

Comment by: DerekB on 14th August 2015 at 14:35

Pobs, pound to a penny it was a woman who parked the red car. It's their favourite trick to park across two bays - think they practice on supermarket car parks.

Comment by: nephro on 14th August 2015 at 18:39

I remember going in there in the late 60'0 and I think the land lady's name was Mrs Gaskel.A big woman and jolly. The carvery was eat as much as you can 2/6d

Ernest, Do you remember every photo on POD, I love reading your posts

Garry I got fined £30 for parking 4 inches over the white line on a car park in Ashton-under-Lyne. Wouldn't mind but there were hardly any other cars parked there. Nice photo.

Comment by: Ernest Pyke on 14th August 2015 at 20:59

MarieM; Thanks. No, I make use of the search box above the photo.

carrie. (Walter Mitty)It just about sums you up.You only think about yourself

Comment by: Ann on 15th August 2015 at 09:09

Garry: you make me smile, with your comment at 7:25.
I don't think you deserve the idiotic comments of some on here, maybe they should look at themselves. At least they give someone else a rest. Ann.

Comment by: Garry on 16th August 2015 at 19:36

Thank you Ann, that's what I'm about.

Comment by: Dave on 23rd August 2015 at 16:59

A 100 pound fine if you park like that in Scotland should bring it in here.
