Orrell Water Park
I lived 35 years of my life in Orrell (until 1973). Where is Orrell Water Park and what is that building ? They mean nothing to my memory.
Its at the bottom of Sandy Lane Nr the Robin Hood pub. It originally was the Orrell Reservoirs. The house is the old water bailiffs. The Reservoirs have been made split into two from the original three.
Alan the "resers" are in the angle between Winstanley Road and Lodge Road in Orrell, The old reservoirs were made into the water park quite a few years ago now.
That photo is something reminiscent of
of what Constable would have painted.
Great photo.
Thank you for the answers, they are helping my faded old memory to wake up ! And I agree, it could be a Constable.
Your right Syd, the cloudy sky and the two red splashes are typical of Constable. - Good photo.
These former reservoirs are fed by waters from the surrounding rising land in the general direction of Billinge Hill.
The overflow from the reservoirs, now The Water Park, is effectively the start of Smithy Brook which flows down into the Pemberton area, Pony Dick, south of Highfield, Goose Green, Worsley Mesnes and ultimately into Scotman’s Flash.
