If I was in charge of Standish I would make all of this area traffic free.

I would build a new road from Rectory lane over the old golf course into Grove lane and Wigan road.

Then the historical area around the Church, Well and Stocks could be traffic free and hold market days and other events.

I worked in Standish many years ago and have always liked it. The pub wasn't called The Lychgate then; I can't remember what is was called. This area would look nice with a market....it is just the right sort of place. But parking in Standish is a problem.

Was in Wigan on a rare trip before Christmas and happened to be in Standish. I was amazed by the number of memorials to pit workers under the Lychgate of the church. Quite fascinating.
