(well, not actually on the Island at the moment).

Lovely picture, but I don't like the white stuff ! I am currently basking in the warmth and sunshine of southern Arizona, near the Mexican border. I have to suffer this for the next three months, according to my wife's orders, (she is from Salford).

Please keep on sending "cold" pictures !

Comment by: Ken R on 26th January 2015 at 00:43

Another nice one Ron, you certainly gad about. As Mick said yesterday, do you have snow tires? Keep up the good work.

Comment by: Fred Mason on 26th January 2015 at 01:34

Good enough for a Christmas Card.

Nice one, Ron...

Comment by: Garry on 26th January 2015 at 02:29

Are you trying to say something From VANCOUVER, Alan.
Wigan in the UK...best in the World.
Another cracker Ron.

Comment by: walt (North Yorkshire) on 26th January 2015 at 06:40

Ron, your pics get better and better -
love this one, remember this place very well.

Comment by: Mick on 26th January 2015 at 07:52

I see you have been Mowpin about again Ron

Comment by: Aubrey on 26th January 2015 at 08:17

The compliments are well deserved Ron, another fine photo.

Comment by: irene roberts on 26th January 2015 at 08:34

I know it well. Looks lovely in all seasons, as does Haigh in general. Good photo.

Comment by: Maureen on 26th January 2015 at 08:42

A lovely photo Ron..have always wanted to live in a lodge like this one...ah well.. one can dream can't one.

Comment by: Giovanni on 26th January 2015 at 11:10

Great shot Ron!
Evokes the coldness that snow can only bring.
Maureen
There's always Yates Wine Lodge!! LOL

Comment by: Maureen on 26th January 2015 at 12:32

I'll give you Yates Wine Lodge Giovanni..you cheeky so & so..lol.

Comment by: Colin Harlow on 26th January 2015 at 14:02

Very nice shot of a well known Lodge.
Well done Ron.

Comment by: Giovanni on 26th January 2015 at 15:28

He! He! Maureen ;-)

Comment by: irene roberts on 26th January 2015 at 16:03

You have to watch that Giovanni, Maureen..... If we ever see him in there, we'll put a couple of brandies on his account!

Comment by: Maureen on 26th January 2015 at 16:24

I know Irene..I've conversed with this cheeky chappie before..and if ever we do see him in the lodge..I like Baileys, what's yours..lol.

Comment by: Julie on 26th January 2015 at 17:16

Nice picture Ron. Same shot, night time, lamp in the window would be nice don,t you think.

Comment by: irene roberts on 26th January 2015 at 17:53

OOH, a Barley Wine for me, Maureen. Let's make the doubles, whist they're on Giovanni.....he won't mind! Apologies to Ron for our bit of fun on your thread. Julie, I agree with you; a night-time shot with a lamp in the window would be lovely.

Comment by: Beth on 26th January 2015 at 17:58

Irene/Maureen , I did giggle at your comments, reminded me of my school days. Stay forever young!

Comment by: irene roberts on 26th January 2015 at 18:53

We ARE young on the inside, Beth, it's just on the outside that it shows! Actually, we've never met, so I can't speak for Maureen, but I know we both must have laugh-lines around our eyes by now, but we'd rather have lines through laughing than NO lines through NOT laughing.....what do YOU say, Maureen?!

Comment by: Giovanni on 26th January 2015 at 19:33

A bottle of prosecco for you ladies on my account and a ride in a gondala after on the canal....the Leeds/Liverpool canal! LOL

Comment by: irene roberts on 26th January 2015 at 20:19

Thankyou, Giovanni; what a gentleman! I hope you're going to steer us through the Platt Bridge scenery, like they do in Venice, serenading us with "Just one Cornetto.....give eet to meeeee!" I'm probably going to get chucked off here now, but I'm sure Ron hasn't taken offence. His photo brought some lovely, well-deserved comments.

Comment by: Pberry on 26th January 2015 at 20:33

From here in Oz, this is the most beautiful photo of our dear old Wigan. Thanks you Ron.

Comment by: Maureen on 26th January 2015 at 20:51

Oh..I've always wanted a ride in a gondola and the canal will do fine..lol,I hope you can sing Giovanni,so we can pretend that we're in Venice at least and I love Cornettos,so if that's possible..well what else can a (ahem)girl want.
And yes Irene I think we've earned our lines look..so anyway see you on Sunday on the canal,I'll have a pink hat on. Ciao.

Comment by: Giovanni on 26th January 2015 at 23:52

Cant sing Maureen but can whistle. Quite handy with the maracas though! Cornettos topped with raspbery sauce and a flake on top!!
Now thats la dolce vita! LOL

Comment by: Maureen on 27th January 2015 at 08:57

Whistling will do for us Giovanni, and
would love to hear the maracas..we're really looking forward to it all and of course the Cornettos,I hope the sun will be shining for us..I'll bring my sun cream just to be on the safe side....p.s.Giovanni,do you have a guitar to play to us in between whistling.lol

Comment by: Giovanni on 27th January 2015 at 11:35

I dont have a guitar Maureen but my son does and plays quite well!
I'll bring my sketch pad as well...some pleasant vistas near Seven Stars!! LOL

Comment by: Neil Cain on 27th January 2015 at 15:26

Looking at Irene's usually faultless spelling and punctuation it appears from her comments at 17.53 that she'd already been at the Barley Wine!!!
These women look like trouble Giovanni, your better off coming out for a pint.

Comment by: Maureen on 27th January 2015 at 15:27

My son plays a bass guitar as well Giovanni..used to be in the band Marseilles UK..you bring your sons and I'll bring mine.lol

Comment by: Maureen on 27th January 2015 at 16:23

What will you be wearing our Irene.

Comment by: Ann on 27th January 2015 at 17:46

Giovanni, reading Irene / Maureen's comments if I were you I would not only watch my cornetto and maracas but the flake you mention as well, you lucky chap you lol

Comment by: Giovanni on 28th January 2015 at 00:25

Thanks for the advice Ann but I'm sure Irene and Maureen are well mannered young ladies who wouldnt take liberties with this "lucky chap!" LOL
Neil
A pint would be most welcome. You pick the venue....I quite like The Brocket Arms!!

Comment by: irene roberts on 28th January 2015 at 09:53

Neil, I don't think I did too bad after 12 Barley Wines! Actually, this computer has made me lazy as it has a "Spellchecker" on it, unlike my old one, and I tend to let it correct me, instead of checking my comments myself. However, it appears it only spell-checks on emails, as it obviously didn't pick up on here. Our Maureen, I will be wearing my original 1940s hat, made in Paris, (Ahem!), and a badge saying "Get th'ale in, Giovanni.....Neil's paying!" (I think he's barred out of The Brocket, actually)!

Comment by: irene roberts on 28th January 2015 at 11:16

PS, Check your own comment, Young Neil....."YOUR" better off coming out for a pint?? We all make mistakes, my lad!

Comment by: Alan on 28th January 2015 at 14:51

Your spoiling the pointof Ron's great photo. Why don't irene, Maureen, and Giovanni send text to each other, instead of this silly chit-chat on WW.
You all sound rediculous.

Comment by: Maureen on 28th January 2015 at 15:48

Alan,if you don't like,don't read..we have already said we love Ron's photo..and I'm sure Ron doesn't mind.

Comment by: irene roberts on 28th January 2015 at 16:06

Alan, if you read through my comments, you will see that, as well as giving much-deserved praise, I have apologised to Ron TWICE for speaking of things other than the subject of his photo. I KNEW someone was going to come up with this. OK, Fair enough, I can see what you are saying, and hold my hands up to that, but it doesn't occur regularly, and at least this "chit-chat", which a lady called Beth says has actually cheered her up, shows the friendships that have been formed between complete strangers through Wigan World, and I'm afraid we don't have each other's text or email addresses....we are strangers. Some of the comments on past photos-a-day have been downright nasty and insulting.....this was just a bit of fun, and Heaven knows, Alan, we all could do with that these days. Thankyou for your comment.

Comment by: Giovanni on 28th January 2015 at 16:36

Oh dear, girls!
Alan's thrown his toys out of the pram along with the biscuits and bottle of happy pills!
I'm sure Ron wont mind. The banter adds to the rich tapestry of the site.

Comment by: Neil Cain on 28th January 2015 at 16:57

Alan, if those you are levelling criticism at were blocking analytical comment on Ron's excellent photo I'd agree with you wholeheartedly, but they're not. They are just having a bit of harmless fun and I wasn't aware that had been banned from P.A.D. I seem to recall that it was only a few days back that you were arguing for freedom of speech and expression. Now when you find postings objectionable you want the posters off site.

Comment by: Giovanni on 28th January 2015 at 17:59

Grazie Neil for your support! Thats a pint I owe you! LOL

Comment by: Maureen on 28th January 2015 at 18:27

I want to thank you Neil for your support..you clearly have a sense of humour and fun..as Irene says we're all strangers and just having a bit of harmless banter,it would be an awful world if we were all miserable.
and Ron,we thought as you probably know by now, that your photo is lovely and has cheered us up no end..so thank you.

Comment by: irene roberts on 28th January 2015 at 18:51

It was just fun, and most of all, it was INNOCENT fun, and how far do you have to go these days to see THAT?! Wiganers have ALWAYS struck up jolly, friendly conversations on buses, park benches, shop queues etc., and strangers are friends within minutes. I have witnessed it, and been lucky enough to be included in it, time without number, and I sincerely hope that Alan's being in Vancouver hasn't made him lose that special quality. Banter is a part of life in Wigan; you are a Wiganer first and foremost, Alan, or you would not be such an ardent follower of this site. We none of us meant any harm, and Ron knows that.

Comment by: Garry on 28th January 2015 at 19:08

Alan is most probably speaking for most posters on here. I totally agree with him!

Comment by: Alex on 28th January 2015 at 19:21

Yep I echo Alans views.

Comment by: irene roberts on 28th January 2015 at 21:09

Oh Garry, love! I thought we were all a "Great Team" on Wigan World, as I THOUGHT you said on the Aspull Post Office photo....and I THOUGHT you said on the Ince Cemetery Photo, that I would never get on your nerves. Just go back and check on those posts, please, in case I read it wrong.....I must be a bit thick, sometimes, but I'm sure that's what you said, and that we had made our peace. Wigan Worlders , please just check on this as I think my memory must be failing. All I have done, Garry, is have a bit of fun with our fellow Wigan Worlders, as I have with you on other posts, and all I want to do is share memories injected with a little humour. Alex, I am sorry you can't see this. There was no name-calling, no bad language, no innuendo; just a bit of innocent fun. If it doesn't bother Ron, I can't see why it should bother anyone else. Ron's photo was a delight, and if it gave a bit of fun to complete strangers in a world filled with hostility, then all I can say is Well Done, Ron, and keep them coming!

Comment by: Maureen on 28th January 2015 at 21:29

Irene,I give up..don't think I'll be coming on here any more...all the fun has turned sad.

Comment by: Alan on 28th January 2015 at 21:37

Just read back at some of your comments, it might be a little fun but silly as well. You sound like school children. I'm really amazed at some folk on here.

Comment by: truewigana on 28th January 2015 at 23:31

Please dont bow to the like's of Alan etc, if you want to chat on here it is your choice, don't be put off by some rude idiot on the other side of the pond.

Comment by: irene roberts on 29th January 2015 at 09:01

Thanks, truewigana. They are not going to put me off, or Maureen, I hope. As Mr. Shakespeare would have said, "Much Ado About Nothing".

Comment by: Giovanni on 29th January 2015 at 10:11

Tali budella miseria.
Ciao, tutti.

Comment by: Giovanni on 29th January 2015 at 10:46

Alan
You say you're amazed at folk on here. Well speaking for myself...I am amazing!! LOL

Comment by: Anne on 29th January 2015 at 12:08

You know this site used to be great, until one or two have spoiled it.The people who have spoiled it haven't been on the site long...they know who they are!

Comment by: Giovanni on 29th January 2015 at 12:17

Make your mind up Anne...one or two!!
Its a dig at us Irene/ Maureen.

Comment by: irene roberts on 29th January 2015 at 12:25

I have been on it for a long time. I actually appeared on a photo on p-a-d in Sept. 2011, and was a Wigan World member long before that.

Comment by: Maureen on 29th January 2015 at 12:34

Anne, you're correct, and the one that's caused the most trouble is the one that's always boasting about the area he lives in..the problem is he isn't getting enough attention to his comments.

Comment by: Maureen on 29th January 2015 at 13:48

Giovanni,no it isn't us Anne means at all..I've been on this forum since 2009,and like Irene have been a member since 2008.

Comment by: Anne on 29th January 2015 at 14:06

Bingo! it didn't take long!

Comment by: Anne on 29th January 2015 at 15:47

Spot on Maureen!

Comment by: Giovanni on 29th January 2015 at 16:45

Scusi Anne!

Comment by: Neil Cain on 29th January 2015 at 18:25

Who could Anne be referring to?

Comment by: Giovanni on 30th January 2015 at 10:06

Irene
Just seen seen you and Peter (Sept 2011). You both look very smart. My nan had a fox stole similar and its jaws were sprung loaded to fix to the tail and keep in place! I can remember the smell of moth balls now!! LOL

Comment by: irene roberts on 30th January 2015 at 15:07

Thankyou, Giovanni. That hat is original but is actually from the Thirties. I now have an original Forties one which looks much more the part. A relative of Maureen's had a fox fur and one day she hung it out of the window to air, and a neighbour came running round to tell her that there was a dog trying to get through her window!

Comment by: Kas on 30th January 2015 at 15:57

Irene, you and Brian certainly look the part, very impressed. Lovely picture! I know , before others bite my head off, not part of the picture above.

Comment by: irene roberts on 30th January 2015 at 16:16

Thankyou, Kas.

Comment by: Beth on 30th January 2015 at 16:27

Lol Irene!

Comment by: Alan on 31st January 2015 at 11:58

You lot from the Victorian period should all visit Beamish, you would all be suited there! Your all living in the past.....move on.

Comment by: irene roberts on 31st January 2015 at 12:38

Having been pulled up for "going off the subject", what on earth brought the Victorians up? The only "living in the past" I can see on this thread is mention of Peter and myself on an earlier p-a-d, when we were dressed in the 1940s fashions. I HAVE been to Beamish and it actually portrays 1912, which is the Edwardian Period.

Comment by: Maureen on 31st January 2015 at 13:49

So put that in your pipe and smoke it
Oh!!and another thing....GET A LIFE.

Comment by: Alan on 31st January 2015 at 16:22

Still boring!

Comment by: truewigana on 31st January 2015 at 16:53

Alan, you still referring to yourself, Mr. Grumpy

Comment by: Alan on 31st January 2015 at 17:15

At least I don't hide behind a decoy name, lie wigana.

Comment by: Anne on 31st January 2015 at 17:37

I think he or she under the name Truewigana should go and make a cup of tea, instead of starring things up.

Comment by: Kas on 31st January 2015 at 17:47

Alan, I found Irene's contributions to the forum regarding the 40s not only pleasant but greatly interesting . Irene, please , for heavens sakes lose the fear of 'going off the point'. This is bound to happen. I love yours, Maureen and Giovannis banter, it is utterly harmless. Well enough said , I enjoy it. Don't leave Maureen!! Keep the faith!

Comment by: truewigana on 31st January 2015 at 18:21

i know you may be a bit old, senile, and a miseryguts but even someone as rude and ignorant as you Alan should be able to see my name, and btw who is going off subject now :)

Comment by: truewigana on 31st January 2015 at 18:23

Not Annie again, please take up knitting

Comment by: Maureen on 31st January 2015 at 18:59

Thank you very much Kas,you've just restored my faith.

Comment by: irene roberts on 31st January 2015 at 19:29

Thankyou, Kas. I just can't seem to do right for doing wrong with some people. I am puzzled as to whether Alan from Vancouver is the same Alan from the comments just above this one, or are they two different Alans? I was only born in 1952, Kas, and my husband Peter in 1950, but we have a real feel for the Forties.....the fashions, the music etc., and are certainly not on our own in that. The 1940s events are lovely social occasions, and we love them. and are looking forward to April when the new season starts. Hundreds, if not thousands, of people throughout the country have great days out, enjoying the nostalgia, some in forties attire, some not, and the atmosphere is one of friendliness and fun. Maureen and Giovanni won't leave, I promise you. Many thanks for you support.

Comment by: truewigana on 31st January 2015 at 19:56

Anne, i think you miss the point of my comments, i never criticize anyone's great photo's on here, i only give back a bit of what i find rude, offensive or just not called for comments by a few on here, usually the same one's, If you look up this post you will find i was supporting Irene, Maureen and Giovanni. Alan my user name is giving as much away as yours, but if you prefer, i am called John.

Comment by: Giovanni on 31st January 2015 at 23:40

Grazie Kas and others who support me. Irene and Maureen for lightening the mood on the site. I appreciate that comments are relevent to the photos but associated banter enhances the ambience. Us Wiganers DO have a sense of humour, I hope!!

Comment by: Colin Harlow on 1st February 2015 at 09:09

Alan, from where ever you are. Isn't this site great, it brings people together old and young, we help each other out with all sorts of answers and clues to great subjects. Be a good chap and lets all start again.

Comment by: Neil Cain on 1st February 2015 at 10:27

Scrawled on a wall in Bamfurlong .....'Support the Miners' underneath it says 'Support Irene, Maureen and Giovanni' !!!!!!!!!!

Comment by: Maureen on 1st February 2015 at 11:29

Colin..you're a cracker..you're right,this site is brilliant,we should all be friends..life's too short..and thank you.

Comment by: Maureen on 1st February 2015 at 11:34

Neil, that's a cracker and thank you too,it makes my day and no doubt Irene's and Giovanni's...love it!!

Comment by: Giovanni on 1st February 2015 at 11:38

I would have added your name Neil but the aerosol paint ran out!! LOL
