Maybe it's just me but the Grand Arcade strikes me as a dull and dreary place with everything selling at silly prices.
How Wigan has changed, this shot is of the old Station Road, with Woolworths on the right, the entrance to W.H. Smith is roughly where the side entrance to Woolies was. It is easy to forget what was there, thanks John for the interest.
I like the Grand Arcade. You can shop undercover and there are seats too. Good coffee places. I have a newspaper cutting of this view when the mall opened. It shows me and mum coming through the door. She died 2 weeks later.
I agree, Den S. the Grand Arcade really is a dull dreary place, I seldom buy anything in there or even go in there.

Grand Arcade far from being a dull and dreary place, If you want dull and dreary just try and imagine walking down the old Station Road in the rain and a view of old Scholes in front of you
Nice picture and probably warmer inside there than out.
Great little shopping mall and very busy especially at weekends.Shame it's not a little bigger
