I wonder if this is Wigans only Imperial staircase.
Mick, i dont think there are many more of these staircases in Wigan and district, not to my knowledge anyway.

Yes, they were holding the quarterly Retro Show with vintage clothing and such like. Makes me realise what we threw out that now commands a kings ransom....glass razor blade sharpeners for one.Thanks for the nice comments. Best wishes to all.

Jonno - they were handrails when I was a lad! :o)
Giovanni, i am 73 and they were banisters when i was a kid and always have been.
Banister it is...hand rail is fixed to a wall with brackets.
I must have two lovely banisters on my hall staircase then!
I often wonder if my old friend whos hubby was the live in caretaker in the 1960,s ever took any photographs of the hall internal and external, although in those days photos where expensive to take
