the number of times ive waited at these gates to go for a run through the plants counted in the 1000s

Good spot to make a extra car park for Wigan infirmary.

Comment by: kath on 29th August 2014 at 09:15

We've stood there many a times waiting for the tractor. Nice photo

Comment by: old un on 29th August 2014 at 09:30

Whatever happened to the old tractors that ferried people up and down to the Hall? Cost cutting?

Comment by: LDB on 29th August 2014 at 09:39

that is a daft idea Mick

Comment by: A.W. on 29th August 2014 at 10:29

Plantation Gates, surely must be in the top 10 most photographed gates in the country!

Haigh Hall, Plantations, For God's sake find a different photographic theme. I didn't think it possible to continue to flog a location to death, more than it already has been, obviously I was wrong!

Syd "put your money where your mouth is" and you take some photographs. Lets see what you come up with...

Comment by: Billy Bunter on 29th August 2014 at 15:55

Wigan's own MARBLE ARCH Great photo taken from a side you don't normally see on old postcards etc.

Comment by: Mac S on 29th August 2014 at 16:02

Should be infirmary car park without a doubt, there are acres and acres of land for people to walk and enjoy, this would not spoil anyones pleasure.

Comment by: Mick on 29th August 2014 at 16:03

LDB its not such a daft idea, it would only need a few shrubs cutting down and some leveling off.

Its surprising how much spare land is there on the left and right of the gates.

I agree with Syd

Comment by: Jude on 29th August 2014 at 18:12

Sorry Mick, sounds absolutely ridiculous to me. Have you thought this through?

Comment by: Willy Wackum on 29th August 2014 at 19:04

Joan b as Scaramouche said "Lets see some of yours then".

Comment by: Joan b on 29th August 2014 at 20:58

I agree with Mick. Make some of it a Car Park for the Hospital.

Comment by: A.W. on 30th August 2014 at 10:26

Mick, try walking or getting the bus to the infirmary.

Comment by: Joan b on 30th August 2014 at 16:30

P.a.d is so interesting and fun, as is Wiganworld. I greatly enjoy it, thank you to all.

What is the history behind this wonderful arch. Is it Victorian/Edwardian? Can someone enlighten me to its history and why it was built in the first place,
