Photo-a-Day (Saturday, 12th July, 2014)
Southgate
I don't recognise this at all.
I am totally lost, where is this ?
on the left is where the melverly st bus depot was
I like the unusual viewpoint Brian, but you are confusing the expats. H.
Ken/Janet has you came out of Wigan A49to the saddle you used to come over the bridge on pottery road and then follow the canal on your right to the ambulance station and then turn left for the saddle. Now the road goes straight on round the back of the Nissan garage and goes under the railway bridge nearer the saddle. If you turn right at the mini island on the photo it would take you the old road but has now been made two way(google street map)
I'm lost too
Just past the old pier nightclub going towards the saddle junction. I suspect this was taken from the Keep Britain Tidy premises
Wigan Pier and the old Pottery Road is to the right. Ahead is The Adam Viaduct and Saddle Junction. The road has been built to alleviate traffic although there didn't appear to be much when this photo was taken. Looking at the shadows it seems to be afternoon.
It's the new road, opened about 18 months ago, goes from Pottery Road to Wallgate near Adam Bridge. The building centre right is the old Sarah Lynn Bakery.
made a big difference that road ,at least the planners got that right for a change
It's called Southgate, best road in Wigan all that queuing down Caroline Steet , Wallgare and the Potteries gone....love it.
Hadnt a clue where it was but its a smashing clear picture ....bet the road won`t be always this quiet. Good shot Brian.
Hi Brian, Can I ask what inspired you to take this picture?
Thanks for the comments. I was in the Keep Britain Tidy office and thought it gave us Wiganers a different viewpoint.
Brian, thanks for the information, I've been wondering where they were taken from,
Regards ,Tom.
It's pottery Road, to the right.
Won't be long before it's all backed up due to Ormskirk Road being narrowed
I think I have my bearings now, Brian took Wigan Pier in one direction then this Road in the other direction from the Keep Britain Tidy bldg.
Alien world for this ex-pat...
I remember the old one way system round Wigan Pier but don't recognise this anymore.
The changing face of Wigan
Who'd have thought that this piece of tarmac, approx 1/4 mile long turns out to be probably the best thing that this council has managed to achieve in the last 20 years. Can't think of any other major success.
Brilliant!
