Great pic. Harry. I'm no ornithologist, but is this really a Blackbird?

Comment by: Mick on 6th July 2014 at 06:37

He looks to have the speckled belly of a thrush.

Comment by: Harry C. on 6th July 2014 at 08:56

It's the female Blackbird.

Comment by: brian d on 6th July 2014 at 09:23

Comment by: Pw on 6th July 2014 at 14:10

Hen blackbird.

Comment by: Dennis Miller on 6th July 2014 at 14:33

Chest too dark for a thrush, a thrush chest is white with dark spots

Comment by: Colin Harlow on 6th July 2014 at 14:59

It's a female Blackbird, brown with blurred spots on underparts.
Well done Harry.

Comment by: Geographer on 6th July 2014 at 17:11

Oh. Look, Garry's wrong again!
Nice shot, Harry!

Comment by: Mick on 6th July 2014 at 17:37

It would be better when taking photos of birds or animals where the male is a nicer colour and better looking, just to take the males.

Pheasant, Peacocks,Mandarin Ducks and Mallards are good examples.

Comment by: Harry C. on 6th July 2014 at 17:48

Thanks all. definitely female Blackbird she and the male are feeding the chicks non stop in turns male is black with yellow beak.

Comment by: Garry on 6th July 2014 at 17:55

Why should Geographer make a silly comment. Some people have no brains and he's one of them. He can't even comment about this bird.

Comment by: Geographer on 6th July 2014 at 19:33

Garry, 6 of the posters congratulated Harry on his photo, as did I. It is 'photo-a-day', not 'comment-on-a-bird-day'.
You and Mick are the ones who incorrectly identified the female Blackbird as a Thrush.
What's silly about me praising Harry, and the person who gets it wrong is the one without brains.
No comment about the quality?

Comment by: Mick on 6th July 2014 at 20:20

Geographer I said He looks to have the speckled belly of a thrush, I didnt say it was one.

And theres no need to make comments about the quality because its not a photo contest and who can touch up a photo the best.

Comment by: Garry on 6th July 2014 at 20:38

Geographer, where do you get the 6 from..now you can't count. I still think/know it's a Mistle Thrush. I'm with Mick on this one.

Comment by: tricia on 6th July 2014 at 20:48

Geographer
So take them out, tie them both to the railings and give them both 50 lashes!
No need to be so rude and insulting to get your point over.

Comment by: Garry on 6th July 2014 at 21:22

Thank you Tricia!

Comment by: Alan on 6th July 2014 at 21:30

Well said Tricia, that's what this sites all about. Nowt wrong with Mick's and Garry's points. It looks like Geographer whats to have a dig at garry at 17:11.

Comment by: Lizziedownunder on 6th July 2014 at 21:41

Lovely shot of this hen Blackbird Harry.....nice and sharp with a lovely background....well done....cheers!!!.... :-)

Comment by: Geographer on 6th July 2014 at 22:30

Correct Garry, it was 7 people who congratulated Harry. I notice you didn't. All you did was get it wrong, and you're still wrong!

Tricia, I said he was wrong, that's not an insult, it's a fact.
It was Garry saying I've no brains that's the insult!
Mick, I didn't say it was a contest, comments on the quality as well as the subject are all fine by me!
Alan, Garry's first post was completely wrong, look back and see how many other times he insults people who don't share his (very often) incorrect posts!

Harry, I apologise for the trouble that your excellent photo has caused!!

Comment by: Fred C on 7th July 2014 at 06:06

Definitely a female black bird, nice shot Harry.
