Photo-a-Day (Monday, 26th May, 2014)
Town Centre
I don't know if this is a good picture or not. I know where it is, but what is it?. It looks alien, garish, out of this worldish. I know it is the centre of Wigan but not MY Wigan.
Looks like it was taken just after the last shot, early morning in Wigan
Nothing against Andrews picture taking, it's a good picture, but, I agree with Ken R, it isn't the Wigan town Centre of my younger days, the town I loved... that town has gone...
Looks artificial.
Looks like a model village in away
How come a choir boy as the keys to the tower
picture today and yesterday are squatting in the church tower Andrew ?
You are right Ken, it's not the Wigan we remember but we have to move on tha'nos, one area of this " Lovely picture" we do remember is the small hill to the rear - centre left of the photo, Aspull's woodchy rook, ah yes ! I remember it well.
I like this one too. Nice to see it from a different angle.
Actually, I recognise it, unlike the previous one. It made me feel homesick for Wigan.
Entrance to the Wiend (Weind?Weint?) is lit up!
Great picture. How do you get to go up the tower? Wigan has changed but every town changes and evolves.Anyway at least the underground toilets have gone!
Kath, I'm a very active member of WPC and have a key for some of the bits and pieces I need to do.
Agree with Ken and Janet. Not the Wigan I remember. Especially the large greenhouse next to where Woolworths used to be...
Town of younger days has gone? Thank god for that! Wigan has NEVER looked better or been a better place to live.
It's different view from the last time I was up the tower when my dad looked after the clock in the late fifties
Jemmy. Too right it's gone!!!
Why is everyone obsessed whether he has permission or not? He is not likely to have broken into Parish Church Tower then advertised it on here. That is a true picture of Market Place/Market Street in Wigan Town Centre as it is today. Scholes Flats in the background.
Give me Wigan back from the 1950s-60s, a much nicer and better place.
I'm with you Garry.
Walter Southern, would you give me a call kenroo@bell.net Thanks, Ken.
Fantastic shot of Wigan as it is today, Andrew. Well done! I love these types of images.
1950s - 60s Wigan a better place? Only in imagination, Garry and Jack.
No, in REALITY!
Wigan of old has gone! Ask the children of Wigan, do you care less about the old Wigan, the buildings, the times the era? Don,t be daft, they are now on mobiles and computers.
