Swanning about
Nice photo Mick. You must have a way with swans.
Was this photo taken last year, the trees are in leaf?
That's one for the pot
I have such lovely memories of that café. My Mam and Dad took me to either Wigan Park or Haigh Hall most Sundays in Summer. You could sit upstairs in the park café in those days and I always had a glass of fizzy Vimto with a blob of ice-cream in it. Once I asked for a milk-shake; I think it was a shilling and I can still hear my Mam saying, "Ee, Bob, it's dear", and my Dad's reply, "Ne'er mind that, it'll do 'er good, milk." Isn't it odd what stays in your mind all your life when things that have happened since are forgotten? We hadn't much money but whenever we went to Southport my Dad always took us in a café, whereas most people took sandwiches.....it was a kind of pride he had and he always said my Mam deserved it. I take my grandchildren into the park café now and it doesn't feel all that different, but the milk-shakes are sadly no longer a shilling!
i think wigan world do this just to take mi blood presure through the roof.yet another bird on piccy of the day . im has sick has sick could be BBBOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!
Wouldn't it be good if you could record your brain...I know it sounds daft but the great times in your life Irene, will never be forgotten. If only we could record our mind and what we think from the passed. I've great memorries of my mam and dad at southport and days out.
I like that word WIGAN PARK, irene. Loveley photo Mick.
Wouldn't it be WONDERFUL AND APPROPIATE if DIRTY HARRY was re-incarnated as a DUCK.
Now that Swan is defo in Wigan Park, Dirty Harry...no ifs or buts.
To dirty harry it sounds like your sick as a parrot.
dirty harry...it's a sad man who doesn't like birds in Wigan....******
Great picture Mick.Irene I love your story .I, too loved the cafe but I used to have HOT (!) Vimto.Happy memories. As Alan said ,you can never take good happy memories away.
You`ve all fallen for dirty harry`s comments AGAIN.........I do believe he is a "very nice man" and likes to ruffle feathers ....think he`s quite harmless really !
This is the first time that Ive ever seen a Swan in Wigan park maybe they have only moved in now the park a the pond have been cleaned up.
Yes Irene, my memory of 'Wiggin Park' is playing on playground whilst my dad was on the bowling green. We would be on our own for hours playing and watching trains in the early sixties. What a difference from today eh. Hope you and Peter are ok and my new e-mail address is now derek_callaghan@aol.co.uk
