Standish is always a top coat colder than Shevy, I can see youv had a bit of snow already.

My old watering hole. This photo was taken some while ago with snow on the ground.

Sad to say this sort of thing is become a common sight these days.I mourn the demise of our once great pub trade.

Love the fact that it says McAvoy and Daughters!

Mick. we haven't had one flake that i know of this winter, Alan, was this photo taken last year early 2013 or late 2012?

Comment by: carol on 15th January 2014 at 09:51

The pub sign outside of the pub now says 'the dog and cartridge'. It's a pity it is no longer a pub but at least the building is preserved. I drive past it regularly.

Renamed 'The Dog and Cartridge'.

I think the concept of photo a day has been lost here, this photo is clearly from over a year ago. You may as well just call this part of Wigan world 'Random photos.' As a keen amateur photographer I know that a taking a photo a day is a challenge, selecting from a collection is not!

This is now a firearms dealership owned by Tim McAvoy and his family.
A long standing business in Standish which used to be situated on the High Street just round the corner past the Spar store.
At least it's not another curry/kebab house etc.

I agree with Jay G to some extent, but i put the blame on the photographer for sending in 'old' photos, only for seeing the snow on this one it could have been taken last week, though it obviously fooled Mick (first comment)and possibly Brian and staff at P a D, but they might NOT know that it hasn't snowed in Standish for quite a few months. Alan, when WAS the photo taken?

roy it was taken in blackrod you silly fool.

Comment by: Roy on 16th January 2014 at 13:23

Twitter your're the 'silly fool,' i said WHEN not WHERE was it taken. Having been born and bred in Standish 73 years ago i KNOW where the place is. I asked a polite question yesterday, when was the pic taken, and didn't get an answer, so i asked again. Alan I am not calling your picture amateurish, it's a good pic. I was just curious as to when it was taken.
