Lathom House
Lovely picture. What an elegant house. Is it a private home? any history / info ?
Lovely house but can't place it in the plantations - can someone tell me whereabouts it is.
Paula - presumably it's a private residence. Its got alarms and cameras but I could be wrong. Can anyone enlighten us?
At one time I think the High Sheriff, Avril Fishwick, lived there, around the 1980's
Paula and Bradsaws Girl, that house is situated on the corner of New Road which is a continuation of Higher Lane which in turn is at the top of Ivy Brow Wigan Road. It was the estate office for Haigh Hall.
Henry 7, Avril Fishwick lived near by ,this house was bought from Wigan Council by Alan Lathom aprox.1970 and is still in the family. Alan Lathom was a well known wrestler.
Nice place you have there Jim. You never invited me there when I was in Wigan.
Thomas Is Avril Fishwick still alive? She is a distant relative of mine.
Henry 7, Avril Fishwick left Wigan some years ago to live in Cheshire. As you probably know she lived on Wigan Lane before moving to Haigh. Now 89 years old I believe she is still well. Avril Fishwick did so much voluntary she was awarded an OBE , and is highly respected by all who meet her . She is a great credit to Wigan.
Thomas, Thanks for that information. I am doing my family tree so I may try to contact her, my Great Grandfather and her Grandfather were brothers. Thanks again.
Hello Henry 7- I'm sorry to say that Avril passed away last week. Her funeral will be on the 10th November on Bowden. She is my great Aunt (my grandfather was her brother in law).
Hope you can make it if you are available
It is Latham house. It was never lived in by Acrilan she lived in Haighlands. It was renovated by my father Alan Latham and now I live there. We have had this house in our family since the late 60s
