Police Station
Photo: Thomas Walsh (Canon PowerShot A1200)
I've been away for a few days so I missed some pics. However yesterdays was magnificent, thank you so much. Then we have todays monstrocity, it could have been used for the youth zone instead of taking green space from your town. However small.
I used to work there, top floor CID Office, many memories, both good and bad. 3rd floor had a fully functioning bar too.
definitely a carbuncle. what was the architect thinking!?
That police station was ideal there, and next to the court...what could be easier.
I think the architect must have visited Norwich & seen the Norman castle...mind you the castle is far more easy on the eye than this big, grey box.
You're right Derek, it is a monstrosity, the standard Lancashire Constabulary Police Station from the late 60s and 70s. I agree with you about the Youth Zone, I think the empty Marketgate Centre could have been used for that.
You don't need to look far away to see another architect monstrosity, only bigger, the Life Centre...(that's my opinion).
What a big difference in this and yesterdays court building..this one has no character at all.
Horrible......did anyone ever see daylight ??
At least it is now being renovated, it should look ok with the new hotel cladding.
Words fail me! This doesn't look like Wigan to me!
Lets hope it's not going to be another fast food outlet...I think Wigan have enough of that rubbish.
It (and its peers) were built that way in case of bomb attacks. Hard to believe? Its true. The IRA were very active in that era.
40 years old & scrapped. Forward planning?
I'm with you on that one, Garry. Too many fast food outlets and I'm sick of getting flyers through the letterbox from such outlets.
Full of asbestos!
