Old lock keepers cottage
Lovely photo, bring back many memories.
Nice one Roger.....be a nice view out of that bay window......nice climbing roses really set it off....cheers!!!
I ride past this place a few times a week and there usually lots of rubbish on the canal bank that been pulled out of the canal.
Glad you didnt point you camera the other way Roger and take a photo of Bithells stinking rubbish dump
My friend lived there most of his single life and even when he was married for a few years.
sometimes I think these cottages must be a lovely place to live and then I wonder if they get plagued by rats?
lovely photo!
For more photo`s of Henhurst Bridge, including mine on 3rd May 2012, put `Henhurst Bridge` in Search box above.
Ron; When did your friend live there?
Lizzie, the bay window was just for that, to give the lock keeper a clear view both ways up and down the canal. Just as toll keeper houses were on ancient roads.
I don't know about nowadays Kath, but at one time the cottages at Wigan Pier this cottage, and the cottage at Rose Bridge and also the cottage at Top Lock all had problems with rats, more so in winter.
Thanks for that Anne.....I live and learn....cheers!!!
This pic took me back 42 yrs when I was an apprentice at Wigan Printing Company which must have been right close to where Mr. Whistlecroft took this photo. Started at the old factory in Chapel Lane opposite Douglas House flats. Anyone remember me apart from Geoff Charnock and Harry Cunliffe?
